Our team has been working with local restaurants and caterers with alumni ties and the results are going to be yummy! Be sure to check out the silent auction items and stop by the "Mystery Wine" table during the night, too. Mini-reunions for the CKHS Class of 1957 and CKS Class of 1963 will be going on during the weekend as well, so contact your alumni reps for more information. The list of all class reps and their e-mail addresses is at the bottom of this newsletter. Please make plans to join us on the 5th and be sure to RSVP today! Christ the King School "Power Couples"
Was it that first fleeting glance over chocolate milk in the cafeteria? Or the shared minutes on the monkey bars? Or maybe even the BeeGees song that played at just the right moment during the school dance? Whatever the reason, these alums found love in the halls of CKS! OK, so maybe they all didn't know it back then, but eventually these alums found their hearts drawn to a familiar face with a common past. Check out these stories of alums who married other alums...and let us know if you're a CKS "merger" and we didn't know it!

Beth Sullivan & Ben Schladenhauffen (CKS '73)
Ben must have known from the start that Beth was special, asking her to "go with him" shortly after they met in 5th grade. Having no idea what that meant, Beth asked her mom, who promptly laughed and asked if Beth could say or spell his last name! (She could!) From 5th through 8th grade, Beth wore Ben's ID bracelet on and off and continued their close friendship at St. Pius. In college, both went their separate ways, Beth to Winthrop University in South Carolina to pursue a teaching degree and Ben to Florida Institute of Technology to attain a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. In 1982, after five years of not seeing or speaking one another, Beth received a call from Ben, who had just finished his Officers Training School in the Air Force, and the rest is history. They were married at The Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in 1985. After 12 years in the military (including Desert Storm), 19 years with United Airlines, 11 moves, and 4 states, they are now living in Niceville, Florida. They have 3 children: Cameron (25), a law student at the University of Virginia; Sarah (22), a Kindergarten teacher in Polk County, North Carolina; and Molly (19), a nursing student at Spring Hill College. Beth is currently in her 31st year teaching Kindergarten. Ben is a full time real estate investor. They just celebrated their 28th anniversary and have known each other for 42 years.

Lisa Groover & Kelly McKenzie (CKS '73)
What was in the water back in 1973? Lisa and Kelly are also members of the CKS Class of 1973 who eventually tied the knot. After their years at CKS, Lisa and Kelly both attended St. Pius. Kelly was then off to Presbyterian College in South Carolina for a year before transferring to the University of Georgia, where Lisa had already started her collegiate career as a freshman. Though they had known each other forever, it wasn't until their junior year at UGA that they were bitten by the love bug. Now, four children later, they have come full circle. Two of their four kids, twins Kathryn and Daniel, are current CKS 7th graders. Their older children are CKS alums as well. After following in her parents' footsteps to both St. Pius and UGA, Elizabeth (CKS '04) graduated last summer and is currently teaching pre-school in Atlanta. Walker (CKS '08), also a St. Pius graduate, decided to break ranks from family tradition and is now a freshman at Ole Miss.

Jenny Ellis (CKS '79) & Michael Murray (CKS '75)
It all began back in June of 1988. Jenny had a date with Michael's friend's little brother and Michael had his own date for the weekend up at Lake Burton. Despite having a date already, Michael knew the moment Jenny walked into the house that she was different. Not deterred, Michael knew he had to figure a way to snake Jenny away from his friend's little brother. So he did what any gentleman would do. He waited about a month before asking his friend's little brother if he could contact Jenny for a date. The call was made and Jenny agreed! Little did Jenny know the night would involve Michael on stage at some lip-syncing place on East Paces Ferry dressed up like Elvis singing Jail House Rock!
It tuned out that Jenny had just finished up her first year teaching Kindergarten at CKS. By the second date, Michael's nieces and nephews (students at CKS at the time) were excited that their Uncle Michael was dating Miss Jenny, the Kindergarten teacher! When school started back in September, Jenny would walk her class down to the Duck Pond for some exercise and instruction. They would sit just across the street from where Michael's mother, Noel Murray lived. Mrs. Murray would bring Popsicles for the kids to enjoy. By this time Jenny and Michael were an item. Michael would travel from Hickory, NC to visit Jenny on the weekends or Jenny would make the trek to Hickory to visit Michael, a four-hour drive one-way. Eight hours for a weekend. It must have been love! By the end of October of 1988, four months after they met, Michael and Jenny were engaged! Jenny & Michael walked down the aisle at the Cathedral of Christ the King the following June, with Monsignor Lopez as their celebrant. Fast-forward to 2012, Jenny & Michael live in Greensboro, NC. They have three children: Ellis, Hamilton & Yancey. Jenny is a stay-at-home mom with a side business, Two Sisters' Toffee. Michael continues to work with his brothers, Mark & Joe, at DeSales Trading Company, buying and selling yarn.

Kelley Guinn & Kyle Stonis (CKS '89)
Kelley and Kyle met at CKS and continued their friendship at St. Pius where Kyle escorted Kelley to their freshman homecoming dance. As friends, they both knew they were always there for one another. In 1998, Kyle moved around the block from where Kelley grew up near the Duck Pond. Just out of college, Kelley found herself hanging out at Kyle's house and their high school friendship picked up where it had left off four years prior. It wasn't until Kelley & Kyle decided to try out swing dancing that their relationship changed. As Kyle attempted to flip Kelley over his back, she hit her head on the floor. Nothing says, "Hey, I'm starting to like you more than a friend" than a serious concussion! A few trips to the doctor, a lot of TLC from Kyle, and a blossoming relationship....what more could a girl ask for? The love they found was based on a wonderful friendship of 12 years. Not only that, but there was history on their side. Kyle's parents, Dinah & Richard Stonis, and Kelley's parents, Kay & Bob Guinn, were both married in Louisville, KY in the same Catholic church by the same priest. It must have been fate! Kelley & Kyle were married on May 29, 2004, at Brasstown Valley Resort in Young Harris, GA. Kelley and Kyle are happily married with two beautiful daughters, Ava (3) and Macie (1) and are blessed to be surrounded by God's love and faithfulness, friends and a wonderful family.

Leslie Trammell (CKS'03) & Phil Consuegra (CKS'98)
Leslie and Phil are our newlyweds, just married at the Cathedral on June 30, 2012. They are both proud St. Pius X Golden Lions, Phil graduating in 2002 and Leslie in 2007. Phil headed north to Villanova for college while Leslie stayed in the south at the University of Alabama. They started dating in the summer of 2010 and are currently in Fort Lauderdale, FL, both working in education at the same independent school, Pine Crest School. Phil is the Director of Development and Upper School Government Teacher, and Leslie is a dance teacher in the Lower and Upper School.
This may seem like a simple love story, but this one has an interesting twist. Way back in 1998, Phil just happened to write a short note in Leslie's CKS yearbook. What did it say? Believe it or not, "Will you marry me?" Little did Phil know that 14 years later, they would be married in the same place they met so many years before.

Alum Sings at Braves Game
Rachel Hamilton (CKS '11) and fellow St. Pius Concert Choir member Lillie Barnett were chosen to sing the National Anthem on the field for a Braves game this summer. After singing the anthem for the 4th of July celebration at a local swim club, a friend submitted their video to the Braves organization. When another singer canceled on short notice, they got the call! Click here to hear their amazing rendition.

 Bryan Receives Fellowship
Stephanie Bryan (CKS '96), daughter of long-time CKS Executive Secretary Mimi Bryan, was awarded a fellowship from the Royal Oak Foundation. Stephanie was one of two winners, from a record number of applicants, of the 2012 Damaris Horan Prize fellowships for study with the National Trust of England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. The program provides training and educational opportunities for those with a professional interest in the history, management and conservation of historic landscapes and gardens. Stephanie spent eight weeks in residence at Mount Stewart in Northern Ireland researching Lady Londonderry's Garden Book and Diaries from 1930-57 to help develop historical planting schemes as part of the ongoing restoration of the gardens. Stephanie received her Master of Landscape Architecture degree from the University of Georgia in 2011 and recently accepted a new job as a historic landscape architect with The Jaeger Company, a design and planning firm based in Gainesville, GA.

Kelly Pens New Book
It's seems we have alums publishing books at every turn! This month it's Jason Kelly (CKS '88). Jason's first book, The New Tycoons: Inside the Trillion Dollar Private Equity Industry That Owns Everything, hit bookstores on September 11. He is a writer/reporter for Bloomberg News in NYC. Jason was a member of Peggy Warner's 3rd grade class and jump-started his writing career in Mary Charles Hare's creative writing class at CKS.

75 to Thrive!
As Christ the King School celebrates its 75th Anniversary, the Alumni Committee has kicked off its 75 to Thrive Campaign. The idea is to have all alums make a one-time $75 gift to the Endowment Fund. In the past, CKS has encouraged alums to support the school financially in a number of ways, but in honor of our milestone anniversary, having alumni invest in the future of the school en masse is a fitting tribute. Please consider a gift of $75, and know that gifts of any size are encouraged and welcomed. By supporting the Endowment Fund, you will be investing in the long-term financial viability of the school. See our website or click here to donate now.
The Alumni Committee has set a collective goal of $75,000 in alumni gifts for the 2012-13 school year. Be sure to watch for updates on our progress in future issues of the Alumni eNews!

Class of 2013 Alumni Reps
Keeping alumni involved is important to the vitality of Christ the King School, so each year, members of the 8th grade are given the opportunity to apply for the position of Alumni Representative for their graduating class. This role is important to the school in that it facilitates a link between alumni and CKS once our students graduate. Alumni Reps help organize reunions, send news out to their former classmates and act as ambassadors for the school. These individuals must be well organized, communicate effectively and be enthusiastic supporters of Christ the King School.
After reviewing the outstanding applications that were submitted by members of the 8th grade, the Middle School staff collectively decided that the position of Alumni Rep for the CKS Class of 2013 should go to Clare Naughton and Justyna Zabinski. Justyna is the daughter of CKS Alum Gracia Wollsperger Zabinksi (CKS '72).

Patrick completed Cadet Basic Training (CBT) over the summer at West Point. Also referred to as "Beast Barracks," the six-week CBT is one of the most challenging events a cadet will encounter over the course of their four years at the academy. The program provides cadets with basic skills to instill discipline, pride, cohesion, confidence and a high sense of duty to prepare them for entry into the Corps of Cadets.
