Many Villages Tutoring Begins 9th Year
The 2013-2014 school year marks the 9th year for the Many Villages In-School tutoring program. Our wonderful Volunteer Coordinators across the district are gearing up for another wonderful year of service for our schools. One of our Kindergarten teachers said, "Children entering in September that needed tutoring this year were unable to identify any letters or letter sounds. With tutoring, many have not only achieved the goal of total recognition of all letters and sounds, but are segmenting words and blending. I have nothing but gratitude for these wonderful tutors." And one our dedicated Fairfax volunteers reported that they "saw kids improve and move onto the next level. That is the goal and is gratifying." Please contact us if you would like to become a Village Tutor. A great deal of help is still needed across the district. To get connected to a school or for more information, please contact Lisa@reachingheights or call 216-932-5110.

Boulevard Could Use Washer/Dryer for Special Need Students "We could really use a washer and dryer at Boulevard Elementary School," said Laura Poundstone, a teacher of students with multiple handicaps. "When a child spills something on their clothing, falls in mud on the playground, or has an accident, we go to the lost and found box and hope to find clothes that fit. Then we wrap up the dirty items and send them home. Our students would be so much more comfortable if we could wash and dry their clothes right here so they could put them back on as soon as possible. Poundstone, who is new to our school district, had a washer and dryer in the other schools where she has worked. "Some of my students have specific items they need daily. Being able to wash them at school means we always have those specific items on hand should a need arise. The art teachers and the gym teachers also used the washer and dryer frequently." Principal Shelley Pulling thinks a washer and dryer would be a useful addition to Boulevard. "They could come in handy and anything that helps a child feel more comfortable could help that child focus and learn more. I'm all for that! Please consider donating a gently used washer or dryer or sending a donation to Reaching Heights, 1991 Lee Rd., Ste. 106, Cleveland Hts., OH 44118 or donating online at reachingheights.org. Please indicate the purpose of your donation as Boulevard Washer/Dryer.
