Advocacy with Scott Massey
Greetings from Colorado! Here are some notable items from the past month. North Cascades National Park (NOCA) has officially instituted a ban on any new bolted anchors in the park's designated wilderness, pending completion of a climbing management plan. For the official notice, see the NOCA website.... In other news, Nepal has announced that it will be placing a "permanent government mechanism" at the Everest Base Camp to provide closer monitoring of climbers' activities.

Kees Brenninkmeyer Foundation
As a reminder to all of our members, we partner with the the Kees Brenninkmeyer Foundation, who provide financial assistance to Professional Guides who may require surgery or operations so that they are able to continue a career in guiding.
The Letter of Introduction specifically states "alpine guides", however, the Kees Brenninkmeyer Foundation will review and assess all guide applications as long as that individual meets the key criteria. The basic
key criteria is, career threatening injury, documentation supporting career and/or career intent with the guiding, patrolling, or instructing organization, and medical expenses related to injury would present a considerable financial hardship.
To learn more information or to apply, please visit their website or apply here.

Brooks-Range Scholarship Recipient

We are highlighting Aaron Richards, who received the Brooks-Range Scholarship for his Alpine Guide Course.
A few words from Aaron: "I began my career in guiding in 2009 after years of working as a field botanist in the Pacific Northwest. Tired of talking only to the trees, I was excited to start working with real people. Since then, I've found enormous r eward in taking guests into the backcountry and raising their appreciation of and respect for wild places.
Taking courses - including the Alpine Course - through the AMGA has always been my goal. I believe in a high level of education for guides and want there to be a standard that we all strive for. Brooks-Range helped make this possible for me with their annual scholarship. The company does a good job of taking care of guides - both through their well-designed gear and through their contributions to the AMGA. Thanks for the support, Brooks-Range!"
Brooks-Range has been partners with the AMGA since 1998 and offers a full-tuition scholarship every year for someone who is looking to expand their professional guiding career in the Ski or Alpine discipline. Thank you to Brooks-Range, a Diamond Partner of the AMGA, for 15+ years of support and providing our students and members this opportunity!
