A pair of students pursuing their Master's in Business Administration (MBA) at CSU Channel Islands (CI) have scored in the top 100 in a virtual online business competition that involves tens of thousands of MBA students from around the world.
MBA candidates Chris Boggiano and Oleg Evgrafov and their company, "From Zero to Hero" earned top scores in the online competition, called
"The Business Strategy Game."
The game has been played by 53,233 students in 3,049 classes at 602 colleges or universities in 51 countries over the last 12 months alone.
According to their instructor, Business Lecturer James Hornbuckle, PhD., the competition is a lot more than just a game - it's a rehearsal for running a global business. "The Business Strategy Game is one of the most difficult and demanding online simulations in graduate business programs today," Hornbuckle said. "I'm very proud of the performances of Oleg and Cris and all my students for their fine performances this past semester. Oleg and Cris are a credit to themselves and to this fine University we have here at CI." read more

(CI) will offer classes required for a Certificate of Healthcare Interpreting beginning in fall of 2016.
The Healthcare Interpreter Certificate prepares students to become English-Spanish interpreters in medical settings, a field that is exploding with opportunity.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of interpreters and translators is projected to grow 29 percent from 2014 to 2024, much faster than the average for other occupations.
"The need for medical interpreters is huge and they are understaffed at clinics and hospitals," said Professor of Spanish Antonio Jiménez-Jiménez, Ph.D. "Those of us in the Spanish program wanted to give students the opportunity to find real jobs that are practical, so we decided to go ahead and propose a certificate in medical interpretation."
Jiménez-Jiménez was first approached about offering the certificate by George West, Vice President of Mission Integration for St. John's Regional Medical Center and St. John's Pleasant Valley Hospital. "We live in a diverse culture and a diverse society," West said. "Understanding health care in any language is complex and it's important that people who speak any language understand what's happening to them or a loved one." read more

Motivational Leadership
Some leaders are responsible for work environments characterized by a lack of confidence, direction, enthusiasm, and creativity. Motivation and teamwork are minimal, both at the individual and team levels. Other leaders excel at creating an organizational environment where their teams feel motivated to achieve ever higher levels of performance and success. Team members are energized by their careers and the work they perform. Teams work collaboratively and creatively to achieve organizational goals. This module examines how leaders can foster an environment where motivation flourishes and people are encouraged to grow and do their best. It reviews the philosophies of workplace motivation developed by three prominent 20th century leadership authors, and demonstrates how Dale Carnegie's famous principles both precede and enhance those theories of workplace motivation.
