Class of 2013: First Santa Barbara Degree Programs Commence
Eleven BS in Business and eight MBA students who are enrolled in CI's Santa Barbara degree programs walked across the commencement stage on May 18 with more than 1,400 other CI graduates, celebrating the near completion of hard-earned degrees. Although these students are poised to complete their degrees in September, they were given special permission to participate in CI's 2013 commencement ceremony. Read more

Martin Loeffler has been named director of the California Institute for Social Business (CISB) at CSU Channel Islands (CI). Loeffler brings to the Institute new strategy and leadership and invites interested students and community members to join him. Social business, as defined by Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus, is a form of social entrepreneurship and is an innovative, cost-effective and fast- growing approach to tackling the world's most pressing social or environmental issues. To cultivate this approach locally, the CISB developed a Certificate in Social Business that is offered exclusively through CI Extended University. Read more |
Biotechnology/MBA Dual Degree Advances Teaching Careers

When Kristin Majda started the MS Biotechnology & Bioinformatics program at CSU Channel Islands in 2006 she was anxious that she would not do as well as her peers. She was apprehensive that the others in the program had more extensive backgrounds and recent experience in the field. Ms. Majda had just completed her fifth year of teaching high school biology and was looking for an opportunity to grow as a science educator. Read more

With almost 100 guests, the Summer 2013 MBA mixer was a great success. Held at the Museum of Ventura County's Martin V. and Martha K. Smith Pavillion, the event featured live music, open bar, and catering by Main Course California. Guests included MBA alumni and current students, faculty, MVS Business Advsory Council members, university staff and administrators, and elected officials.

Alumni Mobile App Available
CI's Alumni & Friends Association has launched their new mobile app, "CSU Channel Islands Alumni." The mobile app features CI social media feeds, current events and news and real-world tips on everything from apartments to retirement. Users are also able to keep in touch with fellow alumni, submit address updates, plus more. The app is free and available for download at http://go.csuci.edu/ci4life. It is compatible with Android, Apple products and Blackberry.
