Message From the Director

Greetings!

Lisa 5 We have been fortunate to have three interns this summer! Mike Busby, a senior at UMBC, is helping us with our Facebook and social media presence. Courtney Stoner, a Sophomore at George Washington University, is creating a beautiful new tri-fold brochure for us and Forrest Turetsky, a senior at the University of MD at College Park, is helping us with our new database. Their fresh, creative ideas are moving us forward, and on behalf of the AACLC we thank each of them.

Warmest regards,

Lisa Vernon

Deborah

Rain or shine, Deborah walks two and a half miles each way to reach North County Library for her tutoring sessions with Ray.
She is diligently studying to improve her reading and writing skills so that she can attend Anne Arundel Community College in the Fall. Deborah's goal is to become a physical therapist assistant.

Lana Shires and Dairy

Dairy is from Columbia, where she earned a degree in Environmental Engineering. Because of limited English reading and writing skills, she has been employed as an Au Pair in Annapolis. Working with tutor Lana Shires is helping Dairy move forward with her career goals so that she can find a job in her field.

June, 2013 New Tutor Training Class

Twenty new tutors were trained on June 22nd. Special thanks goes to tutor trainers Phil Tawes, Dixie Catlett, Jae Sherwood, and Annette Graves for their excellent instruction and to Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church for graciously hosted our training. Thanks also to our dedicated Assessors who worked overtime to get our new students assessed so that they could be matched with tutors.

Please Help Mike!

Mike Busby, one of our summer interns, has been working to improve our Facebook and social media presence.  He would love for you to "Like" our AACLC Facebook page, and "Share" it with your friends.  Also, if you have any ideas or suggestions for Mike on improving our Facebook posts, pleases email him at busby2@umbc.edu .
