Summer Reading
| |
Parents, did you know your child can slide back as far as half a grade
level if reading is not practiced over
the summer? Continuing reading
and math practice is important.
It can also be fun. Look at the
public library for books of math
games, puzzles, and activities. Reading practice doesn't have to be arduous. For those who love stories there are many lists of great books
and lots of popular series books.
Magazines, comic books, graphic novels, newspapers, and non-fiction make great reading too!
Be sure to check out the summer reading lists here!

Pediatrics Group to
Recommend Reading Aloud to Children From Birth
"With parents increasingly handing smartphones and tablets to babies, who learn how to swipe before they can turn a page, reading aloud may be fading into the background. "'The reality of today's world is that we're competing with portable digital media,' said Dr. Alanna Levine, a pediatrician in Orangeburg, N.Y. 'So you really want to arm parents with tools and rationale behind it about why it's important to stick to the basics of things like books."
