Active Shooter Training Exercise at the Courthouse on Friday, August 14

The Leon County Courthouse Active Shooter Exercise will be held this Friday, August 14.  This courthouse security exercise is a multi-agency, multi-tenant and multi-constitutional effort to train, respond, react, neutralize, minimize and ultimately survive an active shooter incident at the courthouse.  Visitors to the courthouse will experience some disruption in when and where they can move around in the building.

Most Clerk services will be available throughout the day, although between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. the Clerk's lobby in the courthouse will be closed. Patrons may still receive lobby services in the south rotunda during this time.  Also, there will be some disruption to the answering of phones between 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. Please call back to have your needs met after 11:30 a.m.

If you need to transact business with the clerk's office during this time, it is a perfect opportunity to check out our Northeast Branch office in the Keiser University Building at 1276 Metropolitan Boulevard.  Linked here, from our website announcements, is a list of the services available at the Northeast Branch office.

Every effort has been taken to make this a safe and secure exercise with significant risk management controls including HIGHLY VISIBLE traffic control devices, clear safety indicators, safety areas or zones safety officers, exercise controllers, and emergency medical services present on site and specifically in the immediate area prior to commencement of the scenario on all floors.  Medical personnel will be on hand if anyone experiences elevated anxiety or stress because of security incidents or noise created by simulated gunshots, other participants, and actors.

Unless you really need to be at the courthouse this coming Friday, though, you might consider coming on a different day.
