Importance of Honey Bees and Honey Bee Safety
The U.S. Department of Agriculture and the EPA released a comprehensive scientific report on honey bee health in May 2013.  The report on the National Stakeholders Conference on Honey Bee Health states that there are multiple factors playing a role in honey bee colony declines, including parasites and disease, genetics, poor nutrition, and pesticide exposure.

Recent Events
  • 50,000 bees were found dead on Linden trees at a Target® store in Wilsonville, Oregon
  • Hundreds more were found dead in Hillsboro, Oregon

* Always read label and check for state registrations.

Activist Groups are Getting Involved
Anti-pesticide activist groups opposing the use of neonicotinoid pesticides released their document, "Gardeners Beware: Bee-Toxic Pesticides Found in 'Bee-Friendly' Plants Sold at Garden Centers Nationwide,"  they accompanied the document's release with a letter to the CEOs of the nation's largest retailers calling for a boycott of ornamental and vegetable plants, mulch, and other lawn and garden products treated with or containing neonicotinoid products.

. . .and EPA too
EPA is requiring label changes to all products containing the neonicotinoids imidacloprid, dinotefuran, clothianidin, and thiamethoxam. See New Pesticide Labels will Better Protect Bees and Other Pollinators.
