Herbert Hoover served as the 31st President of the United States, (1929-1933). He was known as a great humanitarian, worked as a mining engineer, was an acclaimed author, and served as Secretary of Commerce prior to his election as president. As the sitting president when the Great Depression hit, he began the work and construction of the later named Hoover Dam in 1931.
President Hoover was the "classic fisherman." He looked at fishing as both a hobby and an opportunity to relax and clear the mind. He took great pleasure in the art of fly fishing, and often made cabinet members join him on trips.
