Above - kids built a teepee at recess.  On Thursday, students celebrated Yom Ha'Atzmaut, Israel's Independence Day, with a falafel lunch and learning about different cities in Israel.

Today, we are excited to learn from parent Michael Coen about drone technology.

On Monday, we had a terrific day of Parent-Teacher conferences. Todah Rabbah to all of our families for working in partnership with us not only at conference time, but each and every day. One of the things that I love most about our school is that we talk-text-email-and otherwise communicate with parents so frequently. To some extent, the morot and I engage in a constant conversation with each family about each child's strengths, challenges and interests. "Teach each child according to his own way," says Proverbs/Mishlei. It is this continuous communication and partnership between our educators and families that brings this ancient and insightful teaching to life at our school. This week especially, I am thankful for that.

Shabbat Shalom,
Rabbi Rebecca

Tikkun Leil Shavuot
Saturday, May 23, 7:30 pm

Join area rabbis and other teachers from across Madison's Jewish community for a traditional Tikkun Leil Shavuot - an evening of learning, beginning at 7:30 pm and continuing well past midnight. This year's theme is:

Building - Dwelling - Shelter - Home, Livnot U'Lehibanot: To Build and Be Built.  What makes a house a home? What structures help us to live a meaningful life? How do actual spaces shape sacred experiences? What values form the foundations of Jewish living? Join us as we explore Biblical, Rabbinic and modern texts to better understand how both actual and metaphorical spaces help us to experience the sacred and live with intention. Feel free to come for all or part of this lively celebration of Judaism's love of study and learning. This program is presented by Beth Israel Center in partnership with Congregation Shaarei Shamayim.

Jewish Dialogue Sessions About Israel
Generously funded by an Innovation Grant from the Jewish Federation of Madison, these sessions about Israel and its conflict with the Palestinians offer a setting for constructive, respectful conversation with Jewish people who have different views about Israel and the Israeli-Palestinian situation. Are you interested in talking about your experiences, feelings, convictions, and questions in an environment that promotes mutual learning? Come to one or more of the 12 sessions planned for 2015. Some are planned for particular audiences, as noted below. Most are open to all.
