MJCDS wins prizes in RAVSAK Hebrew Poetry Contest

We are thrilled to announce that two MJCDS students and one faculty member received awards in a national Hebrew poetry contest.  The Hebrew poetry contest was sponsored by RAVSAK, the network of pluralistic day schools like ours.  

 

More than 500 students from 28 day schools across North America in participated in the competition.

 

Our local winners were: 

 

Zohar Lazimy was awarded 2nd Place in the Elementary school non-native category.

Jonathan Greenspan was awarded Honorable Mention in the Elementary school non-native category.

Clara Lazimy was awarded 1st Place in the Teacher category.

 

Mazal tov to Zohar and Jonathan, and yashar koach to Clara for her efforts and enthusiasm in encouraging our students to write original poetry.

Shabbat 75 - Host a Dinner or Send a Challahgram!

MJCDS is a beneficiary agency of the Jewish Federation of Madison. Let's all help JFM to celebrate its 75 years of community service.  Here's how:

*Host a Shabbat Dinner  JFM is looking for 75 families to host a Shabbat dinner in their home on the same evening (or be a guest at one of the host families) Host your immediate family, invite guests, or let us match you with guests from the community. Not interested in hosting and would like to be a guest at someone's house? Let us match you with a host. The first 75 hosts to register will receive a commemorative prayerbook and candle lighting kit.

*Send a Challahgram (a challah with a personalized note) to someone on April 17th. as part of the celebration.

Tuesday, June 9, 6:30 pm
Mark your calendar to celebrate our school and the accomplishments of Jojo and Jonathan! Graduation festivities at 6:30, followed by dessert. Stay tuned for more details.

Yom Rishon ~ Sunday morning, April 12

Yom Rishon is a theme-based family education program including art, movement, music, stories, and projects. There will also be some further learning on each session's topic for parents and other adults who accompany the children.  Questions? Israel: Oh! The Places You'll Go!

*Wednesday April 22- from Remembrance to Independence! 
Israeli movie, "A New Home In Heavens," discussion and sing along at Temple Beth El.7:00pm- 9:00pm

*Thursday April 23- Young adults in Madison meets their Israeli version. Barbeque with Israeli young adults. 7:30pm-9:00pm at UW Hillel.

*Sunday, April 26 - OH! The places you'll go! 
A family fun celebration of Israel.  
Vilas Park shelter, 11:30 am- 2:30 pm
*        Come visit Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, the Kibbutz, Masada, Tzfat, the Dead Sea, learn about Israeli history in our live museum and more...!
*        12:45am- community sing-along led by Aviv Kammay
*        1:00pm- Israeli dancing with Yonim!
*        Also Sunday April 26- Opening of the Sovev Kinneret exhibition with curator Guy Raz at Hillel. 7:00pm-9:00pm
