Last week we celebrated Rosh Hashanah, the beginning of the Jewish Year.  Tonight is the beginning of Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, when we say "I'm sorry" to one another and to God. Students continued this week to learn about these major holidays and their place in the cycle of the Jewish year.

Grown-ups can model love of learning for the children in our lives by making sure we continue to learn and grow Jewishly. I had a great mini-learning session this week with a parent who wanted to know more about the Jewish calendar.  Kol hakavod to him for the great question!  There are many great resources for Jewish learning on the web and in our community, and I will do my best this year to point them out. For a primer on the basics of Yom Kippur, click here.

Students also learned about other annual cycles this week. First, we celebrated Morah Clara's birthday on Monday! Then on Thursday, students in grades two, three and four helped to provide an introduction to the study of planetary motion to our youngest students. (See the picture of Jonathan below.)

I wish you a meaningful Yom Kippur that leaves you feeling renewed and ready for a year full of learning.

Shabbat Shalom and Gut Yontif,

Rabbi Rebecca
