The Maggid:  The Weekly Newsletter of MJCDS

Shalom!
Today is dress like an animal day in the K-2 classroom.  The K-3rd graders spent the past few weeks studying vertebrates, animals with a backbone.

Sharing facts about mammals, reptiles, birds, fish and amphibians have been a constant topic of conversation among the children. (Overheard:  "The honey badger is a fierce predator that lions don't want to mess with!")

In addition, each student has been studying a specific animal by watching videos, reading, speaking with people, and searching the internet.  They displayed their knowedge through a written report and a diorama of the animal in its habitat. Today, the children dressed as animals/zoo keepers as they presented the reports and dioramas to their classmates.

Among those who arrived this morning:  a dog, a zookeeper, a panda, a cheetah, a bird, and of course, a basalisk.

Shabbat Shalom,
Rabbi Rebecca

Kabbalat Shabbat.  Here are some cute shots from the past few weeks, including a visit by Udi Lazimy, Morah Clara's son, who answered questions from students on a variety of topics, including his favorite foods and what he likes to do for fun.  Thanks, Udi!

Exciting News!  Tuition Grant Program for New Students
Amazing news: anonymous donors have established tuition grants to enable new students to attend MJCDS tuition-free during the 2013-14 school year.

These grants are being provided independent of financial need as a way to increase the accessibility and affordability of an MJCDS education. The Goodman Scholarships will still be in place to help make day school an affordable option for families with returning students. New students must follow MJCDS standard application for admission, which is at the discretion of the school administration, and the number of open seats for new students may vary by grade.

Please help us share this news with any families that may be interested in MJCDS for their children next year.  Click on the photo to access more information about this program.
