Shalom!
In the photo above, students celebrate after Jonathan scores a goal in flag football.  Check out those grins!

We were proud of our students who performed at the Sharsheret dance festival last weekend.  I still keep catching the students singing Artza Alinu, the song they danced to, and spontaneously practicing their steps even though their performance is over.  Today, students' favorite stuffed animals, who were visiting for an animal classification activity, got to dance, too.

You'll notice in the announcements that we're now asking for children to come to school with sunscreen, which we hope is not overly optimistic.

We had perfect weather this past Tuesday evening as parents gathered for some informal grown-up time on the back porch of the Lazimy/Warrich family.  Todah Rabbah to Trista and Yaniv and to all who attended for a relaxing and fun night out!

As I write this, K-3 students are studying the story of Ruth, which is associated with next week's holiday of Shavuot, when we celebrate the giving of the Torah on Mount Sinai. Remember--there will be extra cheesecake eating and Torah study--but no school--Wednesday and Thursday due to this joyous festival.

Shabbat Shalom,
Rabbi Rebecca

Cultural Studies This week, third grade students wrote a set of cultural interview questions to interview some of their teachers about the food, clothing, celebrations, and more in their native cultures. They learned about the fascinating culture of Argentina from Morah Clara, including the special yerba mate tea Argentines drink from a gourd with a metal straw. They also learned about the diverse regions and wildlife of India from our art teacher, Kalpana, who draped them in bright silk and cotton saris. A photo from India that she shared with the students is at the right. Students also had a chance to learn about the gorgeous islands of Malta from our music teacher Ms. Swatzak, and enjoyed listening to a recording of the its moving national anthem.

Vertebrates and Invertebrates.  On Friday, students each brought in three of their favorite stuffed animals and then sorted them according to the classifications they have been studying this week. The Hebrew word for mammals, above, literally means "nursers."

Presents for Parents Students discussed the mitzvah of  Kibud Av Va'Em, honoring one's parents, before creating some special gifts that will go home to be bestowed on loved ones over the weekend.
