This week started with a trip to the Overture Center to see the Golden Dragon Acrobats. Students were amazed as they saw these artist-athletes seem to defy gravity (which many of the students are currently studying in science). When they returned to school, students used the show as a writing prompt and imagined their own acrobatic routines.
Tuesday night was SMART night! Students showed off their artwork and presented their learning from music class to parents and siblings. Families gathered to chat with one another over sandwiches and cookies, and browsed together to examine the artwork. Many thanks to board member Nancy Brower for her help with this program!
On Wednesday morning, despite the snow, our friends from Madinah Academy of Madison came to visit and learn with us. Morah Geri led a wonderful program that invited the children to explore the similarities between Hebrew and Arabic.
It's always such an uplifting few hours when we eat, learn and catch up with our friends from a school that in many ways is very similar to our own. Many thanks to school director Seema Tahir and to the MAM faculty for their partnership and friendship.
Shabbat Shalom,
Rabbi Rebecca

| Admissions | Be an MJCDS Ambassador
Research shows that word of mouth and the work of current parents to spread the word about their positive experiences with Jewish day school is the most effective way to attract new students. What can you do to help?
*Hang MJCDS informational flyers in all your favorite public spaces.
*Talk to your friends about MJCDS
*Be in touch with Rabbi Rebecca if there is anyone you know that would appreciate an invitation to take a tour of the school.

| Photos | Students worked in groups with friends from Madinah Academy of Madison to create mobiles that illustrated words in both Hebrew and English.

Students strutted their stuff for their families on SMART night, singing patriotic songs, acting out Peter and the Wolf, playing recorder and rhythm instruments. The George Washington Jam was a highlight. Students in K-1 displayed portraiture projects, while students in grades 3-5 cooperated to plan an imaginative green city, which they created out of paper and recycled materials. The city included offices, a Chinese restaurant, a space elevator, and other urban essentials! (Jane explains her contribution in the photo at the top of this email.)

Adult Ed Sociology Series
Sundays, March 3, 10 and 17, 7 pm, Beth Israel Center
UW sociology professor Chad Goldberg leads a three-part series exploring the themes in his forthcoming book, Modernity & the Jews in Social Theory. Is being Jewish in America countercultural? Or, in some ways are Jews the archetypical achievers of the American Dream? Are Jews the vanguard of modernity, or the quintessential traditionalists? Participants will read selections from key social thinkers and examine why Jews played such a key role for theorists trying to understand what it meant to be French, German or American in modern times.
Adult Hebrew Classes
Yehonatan, our community shaliach, is teaching Advanced and Beginner Hebrew classes for adults on Tuesday nights. The Advanced class meets at 6 pm, Beginners at 7:15 pm at the Jewish Federation of Madison building, 6434 Enterprise Lane. New students are welcome any time.
