| Shalom! | |
Now that the days are so short, when we get up for school, it's still dark. Last week, we found a few ways to brighten winter days. We had a talent show--spread over two days--in which students were invited to showcase their special talents. We had singers, dancers, amateur karate demonstrators, a "sky-diver" and one toe-wiggler! It was great to see students confidently--and/or bravely--standing up in front of their peers and trusting (correctly) that their classmates would be encouraging and appreciative.
We also warmed up our bodies by starting gym class this week. Everyone was very excited to see the fabulous Coach Brian Kavanaugh of the YMCA West. Many thanks to drivers Naomi Mercer, Jason Kobylarz, Julie Wilmot, and Trista Warrich for their help in getting to the Y each week.
Next week we're looking forward to meeting the CEO of the Boys and Girls Club of Dane County, Michael Johnson, who is coming to share his story and wisdom with students. We're also looking forward to thinking about spring as we celebrate Tu'Bishvat, the new year of the trees.
Shabbat Shalom,
Rabbi Rebecca

Coach Brian at YMCA West; Rory demonstrates a push up.
(Left) K-1 students "ice-skate" around their room on waxed paper. (Right) Charley enjoys the Magic-Letter-E Restaurant, in which students transformed 'menu items' by adding the letter E and magically transforming the word's vowel sound into a LONG vowel sound. (Win vs. Wine) Menu items with the extra E ingredient were, of course, more expensive. |

 | | Parshat Bo from G-dcast |
At My Jewish Learning.com, Rabbi Dianne Kohler-Esses writes about how Pharoah's heart was hardened in this week's Torah portion, Bo. She suggests we connect the parasha to each of our lives by examining the ways we become stubborn, even with those closest to us. She writes:
*Have you ever wanted to make up with a friend, sibling, or parent, only to find it very difficult to bring yourself to do so?
*What makes people become stubborn?
*What can help family members be less stubborn?
