Carpa Olivera Opening
The saltwater pool in Olas Altas, Carpa Olivera, was recently remodeled and opened to the public. Both the mayor, and the governor were present for the ceremony. Carpa Olivera was originally opened in 1914 by the Chilean chef Antonio Olivera, who had the idea to create a recreational space in front of the sea, which had a saltwater pool, a spa and restaurant, however in 1975 due to the impact of Hurricane Olivia, it was completely destroyed. There was a minor restoration in 2000 but nothing since until now. The renovated ocean fed pool features a large terrace with a snack shop, bathrooms, water fountains, the water slide, and the pool. Canada Day and 4th of July
Expats in Mazatlan recently gathered to celebrate Canada and Independence Days!
Canada Day was observed on July 1st at Water's Edge in Centro Historico. It was a street party on Ninos Heroes featuring BBQ and live music by Alexis Felix and Cheryl Gaudet of "Double Trouble". It was a most excellent party!
Independence Day was celebrated on July 4th in two locations. First was a Donald Trump pinata party at Cafe Playa Sur in Playa Sur. Two pinatas were used; one for the kids and one for the adults. Everyone had fun taking a swing at The Donald. Watch the video!
The second gathering was a street party at Macaw's located in Casa de Leyendas in Centro Historico. Burgers and hot dogs were served along with pot-luck and Fairly Honest John and The Truth kept the crowd dancing! There were several raffles and games all benefiting Hospice Mazatlan as well.
