Can't get to Rio? Try the colorful Carnaval in Mazatlan, Mexico  

''Rio's Carnaval and New Orleans' Mardi Gras are better known worldwide, but the world's third-largest such festival in Mazatlan draws more than 600,000 people for the Sunday parade - the largest event among many. Most are from Mexico, but many visitors also arrive from the U.S., Canada and other Latin American countries. The tradition, a "last hurrah" before Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, commenced in Mazatlan in 1898."

''The theme of the 2014 event, set for Feb. 27 to March 4, is "The Skin of the Sea," an allusion to the fact that the best Carnaval celebrations take place in cities along the seacoast. Many of Mazatlan's events take place along its oceanfront Malecon and within the city's Centro Historico district. 'New this year will be a show celebrating carnival in Cuba as well as light and laser shows that will complement Carnaval's other entertainment'''

"Mexico became only the second country in Latin America to earn a coveted "A" grade sovereign rating as Moody's upgraded it on Wednesday, citing a raft of economic reforms that President Enrique Pe�a Nieto has pushed through Congress.
Mexico's peso and leading share index both turned positive after the upgrade, which should help lower the country's borrowing costs.''

''A senior official at Mexico's National Chamber of Apparel Industry (CANAIVE) has told just-style that the Mexican fashion sector - including clothing, leather and jewellery - is well placed to realise plans to sharply increase exports to US$8bn in 2014.  
 It argued that because of its impact on employment, Mexico's fashion sector has the best "potential to develop the country's overall economy."

It is Carnaval month in Mazatlan! Lights and decorations are going up and there is a palpable buzz in the air! Are you ready?

Carnaval is not the only thing happening! The new aquarium is still going forward and Faro Mazatlan is reopening. Also, shipbuiding is preparing to start in Mazatlan, thanks to PEMEX and Marecsa.
