The outgoing Mayor did mention, however, that his Secretary of Public Security Pablo Andr�s Hern�ndez and the director of Culture, Tourism and Arts in Mazatl�n, Ra�l Rico, would remain in their positions under the administration of Carlos Felton.''

"If the energy reform stays on track, and the secondary legislation is put into place, the next step is to start dealing with private oil companies.  That should be interesting.  It should be pointed out, however, that Mexican oil has not been privatized and is still under the control of the Mexican government.  It's just that private companies are to be allowed profit-sharing arrangements in extracting the oil.''

The New Year was ushered into Mazatlan with rain making everything crisp and clean when we woke up! What a terrific way to start 2014! We have been enjoying the cruise ships in town. The excitement and buzz has been fun - it's great to have that energy back! Gracias, cruceros!
 
 
The first of January also enacts some changes in Mexico. Reformed tax laws go into effect, agribusinesses are getting a boost and the minimum wage is increasing. It is also important to note that NAFTA turns twenty years old.
