Greetings!

We're ready for round two of Summer! Our new Summer II session of classes begins in just a month, and we are relishing the time outdoors with our dogs.

Field Trip
Our Summer I Field Trip Class
We're once again hitting the sidewalks of Chicago, Oak Park and Glenview with Leash Walkin' Around Town, Recall and Leash Manners and our most popular class, Field Trip. Just like our students in our current Glenview Field Trip class shown here, we'll teach you how to get great manners from your dog in real life situations. It's training on the go! Plus, you'll meet other cool dog people.

Speaking of cool, Wicker Park Fest is just around the corner. In addition to the usual great live music, food and drinks, you'll get expert dog training advice from our trainers at the AnimalSense booth. Join us Saturday, July 27 and Sunday, July 28 on Milwaukee Avenue between North and Paulina.

Music Festival Dog But before you leash up your pup for the next street fest, check out our Trainer Greg Raub's blog on Taking Fido to the Street Festival. You might find that what is a blast for you might not be so much fun for your dog.

We have a whole new set of training classes coming up in August, so view our complete list of Summer II classes.

Don't see a class offered in your area yet? We'll come to you! Check out our in-home Private Training packages offered seven days a week to fit your schedule.

Businesswoman Joins AS Team

AnimalSense's new Director of Operations Emily Geitner brings a ton of business experience to the table, as well as a passion for dogs.

Emily & Dakota
Emily & Dakota

Emily isn't a dog trainer, but she grew up with a house full of animals. "Our

family bred Golden Retrievers, 31 puppies in total, so I have built-in experience from helping with their maintenance, bathing, exercise and feedings. And I learn every day from my own dog, a Husky/Chow Mix," said Emily.

12-year-old Dakota has been Emily's best friend for years. "I adopted him as a puppy while in college in Arizona, then moved him to Los Angeles, then San Diego and most recently to Chicago. He's been a trooper along each stop and has made every destination feel like home," said Emily.

With a varied business background in operations (she even owned her own retail store), Emily says the best part of joining the AnimalSense team has been getting to know the other staff members who are all so kind, funny and gracious. "It's so rewarding!" said Emily.

The "Upside Down" Sit of Billy

AnimalSense loves our clients so much that we want to share their awesomeness with you. We're profiling them in our newsletters, on our website and through our social media channels. So, keep an eye out for your dog, who could be in the spotlight next!

Julie & Billy
Julie & Billy
Meet Billy. This 2-year-old Pitbull is a graduate of our Middle Management class. She's a rescue from Chicago Animal Care and Control who has a funny habit of sitting "upside down". Instead of facing front for a sit, she will put her back to her mom and look at her upside down while her ears flop backwards.

While trying not to laugh at Billy's antics, her mom Julie answered these questions for us:

What are you hoping to achieve by training?

FOCUS! Billy is very active, always jumping, sniffing and rolling on the ground. I would like to make a concrete bond with her because she is new to our family and get some basic training in.

What's the most valuable thing you've learned in class so far?

I've learned an incredible amount. I never knew how to train a dog, even to "sit." The connection that occurs when Billy has understood what I want from her is probably the most important. The first time she learned a simple command (touch) was so rewarding - I literally screamed. I never knew how important that communication could be.

What's your dog's favorite part of class?

Probably the treats - she is extremely food motivated. I know she loves the attention and time she gets to spend with me. For the first time, I have seen the student come out in her - she is so eager to please and do whatever I say in order to get her treat.
