Congrats to Gettin' Nosey
Our Gettin' Nosey students in Glenview certainly used their noses in last session's class. But their pet parents also gave from their hearts!
This class was the winner of our new shelter donation drive contest. Each student was given a plastic bag to fill with items ALIVE Rescuecould use. Our Gettin' Nosey class returned the most items to help homeless dogs. They each won a AnimalSense gift certificate and our eternal thanks.

Do You Know This Breed?
Stumped? CanineLink's upcoming Breeds 101 Seminar can help you wow all of your friends with your breed identification skills.
Knowing the breeds of dogs is the most important element to knowing dog behavior. If we know what a dog is bred to do, then we can know quite a bit about its behavior. This day-long seminar will teach you everything there is to know about dog breeds.

Puppy Power
Greetings! It's puppy season! Families tend to open up their homes to young dogs around this time of year. The kids are out of school so they can spend time bonding with the dog, Mom & Dad may have a little more extra time away from the office and the weather is finally nice for walks. If you have a new puppy, it's essential to start him off with a solid foundation of training. Read about the benefits of puppy classes in our Trainer Katie Moody's latest blog. We offer three different classes, depending on the age of your dog: Puppy Pre School For puppies 7 - 16 weeks old Puppy Grade School For puppies 4 - 8 months old Middle Management For dogs 8 months - 2 years old If you've adopted an adult dog, it's also important to start your dog off in your home with some basic obedience. Welcome Home Designed specifically for rescues 8 months and older Fido Foundations For dogs 8 months and older who have never taken a training class or need a refresher on basic skills Check out our complete list of Summer I classes, which start NEXT WEEK. Don't see a class offered in your area yet? We'll come to you! Check out our in-home Private Training packages offered seven days a week to fit your schedule.Woofs, The AnimalSense Gang

Golden Good Time | | Dewey from As Good As Gold |
Thanks to everyone who stopped by our office yesterday during the Wells Street Art Festival to meet the folks from As Good as Gold. This rescue helps abandoned, mistreated and unwanted Golden Retrievers. It was a busy day with the Fest, so Dewey got lots of cuddles. To see more available Goldens, click here. Though Dewey is taking the day off, the Festival continues today with 250 artists.

Helping One Tail at a Time
 | | Trainer Erin Schneider Fits a Harness |
Over 160 pet parents took advantage of services provided at One Tail at a Time's second Community Pet Day. AnimalSense is proud to have sponsored this event. Our trainers doled out training advice and fitted dogs with equipment to make walking more enjoyable for everyone. It was truly touching to watch people trade wires, jump ropes, chains and ropes for humane training harnesses, real collars and real leashes for their dogs. | One Tail at a Time Volunteers
|
AnimalSense was also able to support a group of courageous OTAT volunteers who traveled to tornado-ravaged Oklahoma to volunteer, deliver supplies and rescue dogs. They were actually there when the second F5 storm hit the same area on Friday, May 31st. Luckily, they all escaped harm and experienced some true Southern hospitality. Read about their adventures.

Trainer Handles More Than DogsAnimalSense's newest Junior Trainer Lynda Lobo loves training dogs, as well as cats, pigs, horses, rabbits and pigeons. She's using her varied experience to help dogs live peacefully with other species in the home. "Working with animals takes patience, and each species requires a different approach. Every dog is different too, so having that practice helps me | | Lynda & Surf |
work with each pet on their own level," says Lynda. She says she is grateful to be able to do what she loves and be surrounded by other trainers who share her passion and values. "I'm excited to grow as a trainer and learn from the best at AnimalSense," said Lynda. Her favorite training tip or pet parents is to remember to breathe. "If your dog seems flustered or if YOU are feeling frustrated, take a deep breath and relax. Or take a break altogether. Dogs are sensitive to our body language and taking a moment to chill can put both of you at ease. When you stay positive, your dog will respond better. Sessions should be short and fun!" says Lynda.

 | Kelly, Reyer & Brutus

Meet Brutus. This 5-month-old Yorkiepoo recently graduated from our Puppy Pre School class. He especially loved the new smells, sounds and other dogs in class. H is parents Kelly and Reyer love to cuddle with him and answered these questions for us:
How did your dog come to be a part of your family?
We found a family-owned business in Oswego specializing in smaller, non-shedding dogs. What are you hoping to achieve by training? A family member who is well-adjusted to people and animals of all sizes (it would be great to avoid the small barking dog stigma as well). So far, he's not a barker! What's the most valuable thing you've learned in class? Being able to bounce ideas off of our trainer, Greg, and other classmates has been invaluable. It is great to have an hour a week to discuss puppies with an expert and others going through what we are. |
