Train in New Places this Summer
Greetings! Once again, the Midwest weather is dampening our dreams of playing outside with our dogs in the sun today. However, have faith, summer is coming! | |
AnimalSense Field Trip Class
|
And that means it's time to get outside with your dog. Our training team loves this time of year because we can offer classes that provide opportunities for training in real-life situations. Field Trip is our most popular class for a reason. Every week we meet at a new location to train, practice and have tons of fun. Would you like to have coffee at an outdoor cafe while your dog calming sits next to you watching the world go by? Yes, please! Leash Walkin' Around Town takes off where an indoor leash walking class ends, addressing common issues such as pulling, lagging and dealing with squirrels and other city distractions. | | Treibball |
We are very excited to announce a NEW class that is gaining popularity among dog sport enthusiasts! Treibball is a new sport that is basically urban herding for dogs. You teach your dog to go out, bring back and push a ball into a goal. It's a fun activity that puts your dog to work! You can put your dog's nose to the test in our Gettin' Nosey class. By encouraging them to use their innate drive to hunt and find scent, you will give them a job to do, build confidence, and continue to strengthen the bond between you and your dog. And that's really what training is all about! Check out our complete list of Summer I classes. Don't see a class offered in your area yet? We'll come to you! Check out our in-home Private Training packages offered seven days a week to fit your schedule.Woofs, The AnimalSense Gang

Headed to the Dog Park? Summertime often means more trips to the dog park. It's a great chance to let your dog have some fun and meet other pet parents. But responsible ownership is key to safe play. Our trainers recently discussed dog park etiquette, which helps make your local dog park a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. Watch our Google+ Hangout here. | | Hangout with AnimalSense: Dog Park Safety |
Join us for our next Hangout as our trainers discuss how to get involved in therapy work with your dog on Thursday, May 23 at 3pm. Our Canine Good Citizen class is the first step to animal-assisted therapy work. Interested in learning more? Check out Trainer Paulette Solinski's blog about therapy work.

Kingston the Silent Barker
AnimalSense loves our clients so much that we want to share their awesomeness with you. We're profiling them in our newsletters, on our website and through our social media channels. So, keep an eye out for your dog, who could be in the spotlight next! Meet Kingston. This 1-year-old mixed breed is a recent graduate of our Focus class. He's also recently learned (thanks to his parents) that barking doesn't get him what he wants, so he now barks soundlessly! He moves his mouth as if he's barking, but he doesn't let any sound out. Needless to say, his parents Annie and Ben don't mind this at all. They also answered these questions for us:How did your dog come to be a part of your family? Last summer, we decided to stop by the Wright Way Animal Rescue to look at their puppies. We noticed a little brown boy with the sweetest, saddest little look on his face. When we met him, he wrapped his front paws around my neck and buried his face in my shoulder. He then climbed up on Ben to hug him too! So we left with our own little personal hugging puppy and he has been a wonderful and silly part of our lives ever since!
What are you hoping to achieve by training?
Kingston is a "party puppy". He wants to be involved in everything social and exciting. We love to have him with us when we travel to see our families but we wanted to make sure that we could control him and find outlets for his mental energy since he can be a bit much for non-dog lovers. We hope to increase his trust in us and build a strong relationship with him so he is willing to follow our commands.
What's the most valuable thing you've learned in class so far?
How to make Kingston work for things: breakfast/dinner, treats, toys, and going outside. Now when he wants something, he sits down instead of jumping, barking or biting (most of the time, practice makes perfect!). Another valuable thing we learned in class is the "Find It" game! Kingston now loves to use his nose and burn up his mental energy!
What's your dog's favorite part of class?
Since he's a busy body always ready to please, Kingston's favorite part of class is practicing new challenges. He loves to work and figure out what we're asking him to do. He also finds it very entertaining when we jog in place or around him and he is expected to stay seated - his tail wags like crazy! |
