Home Upgrade is Selling Jobs for Participating Contractors

Anco Design Builds Russ Gallo discusses with Sally and Greg Clifton their Home Upgrade project
|
Last month, The Energy Network profiled a customer who participated in Home Upgrade. This month's article spotlights one of the contractors who make Home Upgrade projects happen: Anco Design Build.
Anco Design Build was established in 1981 and has been in business for 35 years. Gallo says, "We decided to become a Participating Contractor because we have a history of installing all of the energy saving measures that are offered by the Energy Network." But with Home Upgrade, his business is able to incentivize more customers to make the next step with their project. Gallo says, "Home Upgrade rebates can help jump start the sale because our clients like saving money. We have noticed a 28% increase in business in regards to energy saving upgrades." The program has also given Anco the support he needs to pilot new ways to maximize his customers' energy savings. "Currently, we have a new deal in the works... It's a complete package approach: HVAC system, attic insulation, radiant barrier protection, tankless water heater and a complete home window replacement." As part of becoming a Participating Contractor, Anco Design Build has access to training and support from The Energy Network, and is listed on both www.energyupgradeca.org and www.tenres.com. As Gallo says, "Home Upgrade makes sense for our customers and it is already our business model." In order to receive a Home Upgrade rebate, all work must be performed by a Home Upgrade Participating Contractor such as Anco Design & Build. Contractors interested in getting involved in the program can visit the Contractor Resources page of our website. Or, homeowners can find a Participating Contractor at http://tenres.com/findacontractor.

Featured Agency: County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation
"I really appreciate the expertise of The Energy Network Team and the opportunity to learn from them"
-Changmii Bae, Park Planner, County of Los Angeles Parks and Recreation
|
LA County's Parks and Recreation Department ("Parks and Rec" or "Department"), who oversees 179 local parks and natural areas, continues to shine as an energy efficiency leader within the County of Los Angeles.
Currently, there is a comprehensive effort underway to improve and enhance the facilities and services throughout the County. In March 2015, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved a motion to initiate the Countywide Comprehensive Parks and Recreation Needs Assessment to help understand the future steps that need to be taken to ensure all communities have adequate access to thriving parks.
Since energy efficiency is a key component of thriving parks, the Department has been working with The Energy Network to receive customized services and support for their energy efficiency projects -- including retrofitting lighting fixtures at community parks that not only provide energy and cost savings but also increase security and reliability for the community. To date, Parks and Rec has 9 lighting and mechanical energy efficiency projects underway, which combined are expected to provide an annual cost savings of over $92,000 - on top of the $200,000 in annual savings already captured from projects completed through The Energy Network program. Moreover, the Department is planning to implement an additional 14 projects in 2017 -- estimated to save another $273,000 annually. In total, the annual energy savings captured from all projects will be over 3 million kWh and 64,000 therms, which is equivalent to 1,424 tons of avoided GHG emissions. Once all projects are complete, The Energy Network will have assisted Parks and Rec with securing over $730,000 in incentives to help pay for these projects.
In addition to supporting energy efficiency projects, The Energy Network supports Parks and Rec by participating on the Department's Energy and Water Taskforce to provide objective third-party expertise.
