The Energy Network - Residential Programs
Home Upgrade
Contractors are an integral part in the success of our energy efficiency programs. The Energy Network now has 102 registered Energy Upgrade California® Home Upgrade Participating Contractors in Los Angeles County - a sharp increase from 65 Participating Contractors in 2014. Three contractor workshops were held which focused on providing professional development in Home Performance Sales Training and project support to The Energy Network Participating Contractors.

Homeowner Energy Efficiency Educational Workshops
Building on the partnerships established last year, The Energy Network and its local partners collaborated to host 14 homeowner workshops. Homeowner workshops brought community members with local contractors to discuss the benefits of the program and answer questions. In addition, The Energy Network hosted its first Home Upgrade Home Tour in Culver City. Residents were able to see first-hand the energy efficiency upgrades that can be carried out in a home.

Homeowner Outreach The Energy Network was present at 42 community events, home trade shows, Earth Day booths, corporate events, and contractor conferences, with our busiest month in April. The call center handled almost 300 calls from homeowners and contractors. The Energy Network also distributed Home Upgrade lawn signs to Home Upgrade participants allowing them to share their satisfaction and get the word out on the program.
Green Real Estate

In a groundbreaking year, The Energy Network provided no-cost training to help 618 real-estate professionals achieve the National Association of REALTORS® Green Designation certification. Certified agents help homebuyers choose a healthier, money-saving green home, or to take advantage of rebates and financing to complete energy-upgrades with the purchase of an older home. 109 appraisers also received training in assessing the value of a home's green features from insulation to solar. These efforts are transforming the marketplace into one where both homebuyers and home-industry professionals recognize the value of green features and upgrades.

The Energy Network - Business Programs
Multifamily
A tremendous surge of enrollment beginning in July 2015 produced, by far, the most successful year ever for The Energy Network Multifamily Program. By November 2015, the program was fully subscribed, with more than 9,000 units enrolled. Program implementers created a waiting list to manage the demand for energy upgrade rebates!
This new level of success means that the multifamily sector will make a more substantial contribution to local government greenhouse gas reduction goals. What drove 2015's unprecedented success? Diligent efforts to create new relationships with raters, contractors, and multifamily property owners, especially large companies with sizable portfolios across Southern California.
Los Angeles County Commercial PACE The Los Angeles County Commercial PACE program hosted several county-wide workshops to continue to help contractors add value to their commercial projects. The Program also launched a targeted marketing and outreach strategy in September 2015. The strategy focuses on leveraging existing local government partnerships - particularly with the San Gabriel Valley and South Bay Cities Councils of Governments (COGs) - to reach out to business owners directly. This outreach strategy is already making an impact, as The Energy Network is an official sponsor the South Bay Cities Green Business Challenge. The Energy Network is also hosting the Local Energy Economic Forum in the San Gabriel Valley on February 11, 2016 with San Gabriel Valley COG.

The Energy Network -
Public Agency Programs
The Energy Network's Public Agency Program's primary focus is to demonstrate how joint actions by local governments can drive more cost-effective solutions within the energy sector. The goal is simple -- to transform the energy efficiency market through broad participation in the program and rapid public agency action.
As of 2015, the Program has identified over 75 million kWh and over 270 thousand therms of savings within The Energy Network territory and agencies are beginning to see the positive impacts the Program is having on their communities as projects are not only identified, but also expeditiously implemented.
"I can truly say we would have not gotten this far this fast in such a cost effective manner without The Energy Network's guidance and technical assistance every step of the way. In short The Energy Network is a fantastic program to assist local governments in energy efficiency that will pay dividends for years to come."
- Charles Herbertson, Director of Public Works Culver City
In 2016, the Program will continue to expand its implementation projects, make technical expertise accessible and available, and integrate energy efficiency as a standard business practice for all public agencies -in turn creating resilient communities and a platform in which to build our sustainable energy future. With nearly 70 agencies currently enrolled in The Energy Network, the Public Agency Program has built a true and expansive network including not only public agencies, but also 17 engineering firms, 13 contractors and a pipeline of over 240 energy project opportunities. Moreover, Program staff have touched over 125 public facilities and over 35,000 streetlights while implementing a comprehensive whole building approach for a variety of public facilities including schools, and libraries, water and wastewater facilities, parks and recreational facilities, fire stations, police departments, city halls and community centers. Featured Project: City of Claremont
The semi-finals for the Georgetown University Energy Prize (GUEP) are are in full swing with 50 communities from 26 states across the nation competing to see who can claim the greatest energy demand reduction.
To drive Claremont residents to participate in energy efficiency upgrades, The Energy Network has provided Upgrade Coupons for distribution to homeowners that guarantee additional funds on their Advanced Home Upgrade project, along with Assessment Vouchers that will offset the cost of an energy assessment conducted by a contractor. Finally, Sustainable Claremont enrolled in "Energy Champions", a referral program that will help community organizations earn up to $400 for every Home Upgrade or Advanced Home Upgrade project completed and on January 21, The Energy Network will host its second Claremont community energy efficiency lunch and learn. More information on the event including how to attend can be found here.
With the help of The Energy Network Public Agency Program, The City of Claremont will also pursue a full-scale LED retrofit for a majority of it's existing streetlights, as well as outdoor lighting retrofits for several high-use community facilities found throughout the City. The Energy Network has helped leverage utility-based incentives and On-bill Financing (OBF) to offset the City's cost of these energy efficiency projects. Projects are planned to go to City Council by January and construction completion is expected by May 2016.
While these efforts may win the City of Claremont the GUEP, they also will create shared benefits for the entire community of Claremont -- benefits such as improved illumination, greater reliability, reduced energy costs and reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
The Energy Network is proud to have supported The City of Claremont in taking action to create a healthier and more resilient community. As the GUEP says, "Every competing community that demonstrates energy savings over previous years will be winners -- providing benefits to members of the community not only today, but for future generations as well."
