Master selling your wares before hiring staff
This was uttered by a manager I had 20 years ago, and I recently heard a small business CEO say the same thing. The CEO's background is in finance, where working with numbers always made sense to him as the credits and debits balanced. He does not understand why the salesperson he has hired "can not sell." Actually he has hired four different salespeople over that last few years, and none of them have been able to sell. Owners, if your sales people are not selling, you might want to look in the mirror. While there are salespeople who cannot or will not do the work necessary to succeed in their job, most people in the selling role can and will sell. If you find yourself wondering why they aren't doing so, before you go through three or more people, make sure you understand what it takes to succeed as a salesperson in your business. Read more.
