Comptroller's Economic Outlook
| |
Job growth, sales tax collections - both from business and consumer purchases - as well as automobile sales, signal that the Texas economy has emerged from the recent recession.
Another indicator that the state's economy has been comparatively healthy was the U.S. Census Bureau report that Texas added more people (421,000) than any other state from 2010 to 2011. Although Texas has only 8 percent of the nation's population, the state added nearly 19 percent of the nation's population growth for the year.
By December 2011, Texas employers replaced all 427,600 jobs shed during the recession as our economy rebounded more quickly than the U.S. as a whole, and continues to add jobs. Nationally, through August 2012 only 48 percent of recession-hit jobs have been recovered.
Texas and the nation returned to economic growth in 2010 and 2011. In 2011, Texas real gross domestic product grew by 2.4 percent, compared with 1.6 percent GDP growth for the nation. Read more.

Volunteer with the Kyle Chamber!
| |
Are you interested in volunteering with the Kyle Chamber? Then you've come to the right spot!
BASH's are a free event that happen once a month that allow the members to have an informal get together to network and meet new people in the business community. The chamber team is always looking for an extra set of hands to help with loading/unloading, setting up and cleaning after the event. If you have an hour to spare before or after the event, we'd appreciate the help!
Through out the year, the chamber plans several events. If you'd like to be invloved with an event but can't serve on a committee, we still have a spot for you! Duties include registering guests, day-of-event tasks etc.
If you'd like more information on volunteering with the chamber, please email Caitlyn Pesl at membership@kylechamber.org or call our office at 512-268-4220.

The Kyle Chamber of Commerce is proud to feature Vitalogy Skincare as our Member Monday! Vitalogy Skincare was founded by Dr. Eric Adelman, right here in Texas in 2007.
Just down the road in San Marcos, the doctors at Vitalogy Skincare, Dermatology and Skin Cancer centers specialize in Mohs Micrographic skin cancer surgery, Skin Cancer prevention detection and education. Skin Cancer is the most common form of cancer, outnumbering lung, breast and prostate cancers combined. "Preventive medicine has always made sense to me. When you find a skin cancer early it is has a very high cure rate, but when found late and has progressed it can be much more difficult to treat and even deadly," Dr. Eric Adelman says.
In regards to their chamber membership, they had this to say, "Kyle is such a great community to be a part of, it really has a personal feel, especially because of the way the chamber brings local business creating opportunities for partnerships and networking."

The Five Cs of Opportunity Identification
Simply asking "what job is the customer trying to get done?" can be a powerful way to enable innovation, because it forces you to go beyond superficial demographic markers that correlate with purchase and use to zero in on frustrations and desires that motivate purchase and use. Seductive simplicity hides a rich, robust set of opportunity identification tools. Through our experience utilizing the "jobs-to-be-done" concept in a range of settings, my colleagues and I have developed five tips for would-be innovators: the five Cs of opportunity identification (modeled after marketing's famous four Ps - price, product, place, and promotion).
