Bill's Book Group For Guys

This post-apocalyptic page turner is beloved by our book sellers as well as our customers, and it recently won the Morning News Tournament of Books - all of which are good signs for a relaxed Summer read and our next meeting in early September.
Join Bill's Book Group for Guys for a relaxed evening in the store discussing a specially-chosen book while enjoying a beer, glass of wine, or a select single-malt whiskey. $25 buys the book and a ticket to the event, including libations.

Bookseller Recommendations!

Marilyn Recommends:
Driving Hungry: A Memoirby Layne Mosler The author asks taxi drivers in Buenos Aires, New York, and Berlin to take her to their favorite (not touristy) restaurants and writes a blog. She even becomes a taxi driver in NYC. I thoroughly enjoyed her voice and story; it changes the way I'll think about taxi rides in the future.
William Recommends:
Everybody Riseby Stephanie Clifford With influences from Edith Wharton to Evelyn Waugh, this darkly comic novel tells the story of a modern Lily Bart who eschews her middle class roots for the friendship of the uber-wealthy in the Hamptons. Before long, she's over her head and sinking fast. Will her new found 'friends' help her? This is a terrific summer read, light and breezy . . . plus, who doesn't love a good Sondheim reference? Phyllis recommends:
by Ann Beattie The State We're In is yet another truly wonderful collection of short stories by Ann Beattie. All of these particular tales take place in the state of Maine with several shared characters to offer differing perspectives of the same situations. These snippets of individuals of all ages and walks of life are so vivid that I felt more of an eyewitness to a scene unfolding before me than a reader! Rebecca recommends:
by Lauren Holmes These ten stories are funny, plain-spoken tales about people (and occasionally dogs) out of their depth. My favorites are "Pearl and the Swiss Guy Fall in Love". and "Desert Hearts," but they're all good! The tale narrated by the dog is delightfully disgusting! Plus, she is a Wellesley College alumna.

Recommendations From The Arc Reader Program!
Noah Recommends:
.".. is about two kids, Henry and Zavion. Henry lives in Vermont and Zavion lives in New Orleans. Hurricane Katrina strikes and Zavion and his Papa flee to their friend's house in Baton Rouge. After the Hurricane Henry donates a pair of blue jeans to the victims of the storm but he forgets he had a lucky marble in the pocket. I really enjoyed how they went through this amazing journey and met each other because of a single marble."
Ella Recommends:"This is one of my favorite books now and, I imagine, moving forward. The book was pretty short but was full of suspense, fantasy, action, mystery, etc. I'm a tad biased considering I love fantasy reads but even people who don't would love this book. The main character Alexa had a Mulan feel to her, considering she had to pretend to be a boy to serve in the king's guard. I give this book a 4.9/5"
Our Whole Store Recommends: The Day The Crayons Came Home by Oliver Jeffers and Drew Daywait I'm not sure what it is about this kid Duncan, but his crayons sure are a colorful bunch of characters. Having soothed the hurt feelings of one group who threatened to quit, Duncan now faces a whole new group of crayons asking to be rescued. "A masterwork of humor and design . . . Sure to be as popular as "The Day the Crayons Quit."" - Booklist

Bailey
Bailey Pirozzolo is a seven year old golden retriever. His owners' names are Dick and Jane, but they decided it would be too predictable if they named him Spot. Bailey loves watching Australian Shepherd dogs on TV, and he looks for them behind the set whenever they run out of the frame. His favorite trick is to balance a treat on his nose and snap it up when given the command! Welcome to Wellesley Books, Bailey!
