Perfect weather,  perfect peonies and the perfect beach read - The Matchmaker by the lovely Elin Hilderbrand. Elin was here last night for a packed reading, and we have signed copies of The Matchmaker available while they last. Give us a call at the store and we will be happy to set a copy aside for you.

Nick Trout On Tuesday, June 17 at 7pm, Wellesley Books hosts Nick Trout, bestselling author of The Patron Saint of Lost Dogs and Tell Me Where It Hurts as he shares his new book, Dog Gone, Back Soon. In this book, Nick introduces us to a small town vet with big-time challenges and eccentric cases to treat. Dog Gone, Back Soon captures the essence of what made Nick Trout want to become a vet: the thrill of healing a sick animal and a determination to find every pet a loving home.

Jeni's Splended Ice Cream Join in the fun on Wednesday, June 18 at 7pm at Miele Gallery as Jeni Britton Bauer shares her new cookbook, Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream Desserts, while demonstrating how to make smooth, scoopable ice creams, frozen yogurts, and sorbets in your own kitchen. Tickets for this splendidly tasty event are available on our website.

Whre's Waldo? Where's Waldo? In Wellesley, of course. The famous children's book character in the striped shirt and black-rimmed specs is visiting twenty-five different local businesses throughout our community this July. Those who spot him can win prizes, including stickers, book coupons and more. Waldo figures will be popping up in public areas throughout businesses in the center of town. Support local business and the Shop Local movement with this great summer vacation activity!

Speaking of summer vacation, local school reading lists are beginning to trickle into the store, and we are busily stocking up on the titles you need to read.

  • Summer Picks Booklet
Our booksellers love nothing better than to put the right book into the right kid's hand. Whether the reader is a fantasy fan or a lover of realistic fiction, we rise to the challenge. Each summer, we take these choice picks and put them all in one booklet, divided by grade with a short description of each book. Here are a few recommendations from the booklet:

First & Second Graders:
The Miniature World of Marvin & James by Elisa Broach
When James goes on vacation, Marvin the Beetle is dismayed that he has to stay home without his friend. With the help of his cousin Elaine, Marvin soon has some excitement of his own inside a pencil sharpener.

Third & Fourth Graders:
Mr. and Mrs. Bunny - Detectives Extraordinaire by Polly Horvath
Mr. and Mrs. Bunny find that they are quite good at detecting and go into business for themselves.  This is a smart and funny read with unforgettable characters, humor and lovely illustrations.

Middle School:
The Riverman by Aaron Starmer
When Alistair's classmate Fiona asks him to write her autobiography, he discovers that a year is missing from her life.  She believes that she has been in a parallel world, where an evil entity called the Riverman is stealing children.  What is really happening?

High School:
Say What You Will by Cammie McGovern
Amy and Matthew seem an unlikely pair, but as they move through their senior year of high school and challenge each other, they form a close bond based on the truth.  But are they being completely truthful, or is there something else they should be sharing with each other?  Awkward, touching, and full of spirit, these characters will stay with you long after you have finished their story.

Dog of the Week

  • Ziggy

Ziggy Ziggy really made me work to take his picture! When I first caught sight of him, he was busily looking for a place to hide his bone for later.  I followed him around the store for a while, then we ended up outside in the flower bed. After burying the bone with his nose, he came back inside where he cleaned off his nose and fixed his hair. Ziggy is a 3 year-old good mutt mix who reads with kids as a service dog. Adorable AND literate!  Lorna picked him up for a little cuddle after all his hard work.
