After the long, slow summer, fall is the time where new books are harvested every week and the number of events grows exponentially! We are thrilled to bring you such exciting authors and books. If you cannot make an event, you may still order a signed personalized copy either by calling the store or ordering online. We are so excited to share these new titles with you! Talking about books is definitely the best part of working in a bookstore. Scroll right down to our Bookseller Recommendations to see what we are excited about this week!
You will not want to miss this event at the Wellesley Free Library with Alice McDermott tonight, Wednesday, September 18th at 7:00pm, as she returns with her first novel in seven years, Someone. Scattered recollections -- of childhood, adolescence, motherhood, old age -- come together in this transformative narrative, stitched into a vibrant whole by McDermott's deft, lyrical voice. This highly anticipated book is already receiving glowing early reviews. Thursday, September 19th is Mom's Day Out in Wellesley Square. Parking is free, and all the items in our Summer Booklet are discounted 10%. You can see the rest of the participating stores by downloading the flyer.
On Thursday, September 19th at 7:00pm we offer a unique evening event with Mollie Katzen. She will be sharing her brand new cookbook, The Heart of the Plate: Vegetarian Recipes for a New Generation, a sparkling new repertoire of 250 ultra-flavorful, unfussy vegetarian dishes that exemplify the way Katzen cooks today. Her new cuisine is lighter, sharper, spicier, more relaxed, and more vibrant than ever. Please check our website for ticketing information.
Come join us Friday, September 20th at 6:30pm for a night of celebration for Sherborn author, Deborah Doucette as she launches her new book, Bad Girls. Bad Girls is about the choices women face, family, a mystery and a little magic. It is sure to be a fun-filled evening for all and a chance to get to know a new local writer.
Young adult readers, don't miss this fierce quartet of writers! Marissa Meyer (Cinder, Scarlet), Leila Sales (This Song Will Save Your Life), S.A. Bodeen (The Compound, The Fallout), and Alexandra Coutts (Tumble & Fall) will be taking Wellesley by storm on Wednesday, September 25th at 7:00pm as part of their Fierce Reads tour. "...Samuel rode lightly on top of a book and he balanced happily among ideas the way a man rides white rapids in a canoe. But Tom got into a book, crawled and groveled between the covers, tunneled like a mole among the thoughts, and came up with the book all over his face and hands." ~John Steinbeck, East of Eden

Visitation Street by Ivy Pochoda On a hot summer night in the Red Hook section of Brooklyn, two restless teenage girls make a fateful choice that will reverberate through their community. As individual characters try to sort out the implications of what has happened, they must confront difficult truths about their own lives. This second book to come out under the Dennis Lehane imprint is a compelling story, steeped in the atmosphere of a tough, resilient town and the remarkable, diverse people who live there. I found it unforgettable!

Chocolates for Breakfast by Pamela Moore This novel was a bestseller in 1956, released just before the author's 19th birthday. The publisher hoped it had found the American equivalent of Bonjour Tristesse. Polished it ain't. But something about it feels vital despite a few of the trashier plot twists - the headstrong young woman at its center fascinates as she bounces from boarding school to Hollywood to high-society New York City. It's also enriched by the introduction, an analysis and an excellent afterword by Pamela Moore's son.

Night Film by Marisha Pessl Ashley Cordova, the adult daughter of the reclusive cult-horror director Stanislav Cordova, commits suicide-- or does she? A journalist, just regaining his credibility after an encounter with Stanislav, joins with two strangers, each with their own ties to Ashley, to find the truth. A fresh feeling, page turning, literary thriller with twists that will keep you up into the wee hours.

The Gallery of Vanished Husbands by Natasha Solomons Starting in 1958, Juliet is deserted by her husband and left to raise two children alone. With money meant to buy a refrigerator she pays for a portrait instead. And so a life of art and portraits follows. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Kerri brought Charlie to the store along with her girls and it was almost like having a party in the kids section! Charlie got her treat and plenty of attention. She makes the most adorable puppy noises! Thanks for bringing her in, Kerri!
