Wow - so how busy is everyone?! Getting ready for upcoming vacations, graduations, Father's Day and sending kids off to camp involves a lot of work and planning. Our job is to make everything easy for you. We offer one-stop shopping for dads and grads, camp care packages you can put together with books and unique gifts that we will mail for you, and of course, we'll help you solve that most important of questions - what book am I going to pack?
We love to recommend books and have selected the best books for you to feast on this summer. Hot off the press is our Summer Reading Feast for 2013 available in the store now. So come on in and smell the books!
We are excited about our event with Barton Seaver for a Father's Day grilling demonstration on Saturday, June 15th at 4pm. Barton was recently featured on Williams-Sonoma's blog, where they talk about that special something in successful summer grilling - SMOKE! Barton will be grilling up Orange Scented Bluefish and Grilled Kale - YUM! Saturday the 15th is also the day of Wellesley Theatre Project's Cone Crawl. You can download the flier for all the fun details HERE. On Tuesday, June 18th at 7:00pm, come spend an evening with local Sudbury author Laura Anderson as she wraps you up in the secrets, betrayals and lies of her alternative Tudor England by imaging this simple but history-shattering question: What if Anne Boleyn had given Henry VIII a healthy son who had lived? Beekeeper, author and the visionary behind Red Bee ® Artisanal Honey, Marina Marchesa will be here on Sunday, June 23rd at 2:00pm. Get a delicious introduction to the world of honey and taste some of the amazing new varieties with Marina Marchese as she presents her new book The Honey Connoisseur. A perfect book for light summer entertaining! This event is free of charge. Back by popular demand is the Where's Waldo? Scavenger Hunt. Please check out our website for all of the details and a list of participating stores. Also happening in July is Wellesley Square's July Jubilation on July 20th. Stay tuned for more details! |

For Father's Day, get Dad a ticket for one of our most popular new events - Bill's Book Group for Guys - a relaxed evening of discussion accompanied by a beer, glass of wine, or a select single malt whisky. $25 buys the book and a ticket to the event on Wednesday, September 18th at 7:00pm, including libations. The selection for September's meeting is The New Confessions, William Boyd's fun romp of a read and, perhaps, the definitive novel of the 20th century. |

Flight Behavior by Barbara Kingsolver Kingsolver's lyrical storytelling paints a vivid picture of the culture and setting of her native Appalachia. Dellarobia Turnbow, disenchanted with her marriage, is on her way to a secret tryst. What she sees stops her in tracks and causes her to head straight home. Monarch butterflies have digressed from their usual migration pattern and are spending the winter on the Turnbow farm instead of their usual winter home in Mexico. The miracle of the butterflies is interpreted by her family, the preacher and the media in many different ways. Kingsolver tackles climate change and the threat of change to a rural community's belief system, always treating her characters with care and respect.

Capital by John Lanchester
During the heat of the financial crisis in London, the people living on Pepys Road are all thinking of money - how to get it, how to keep it. We are introduced to these residents and those surrounding them - the wealthy banker and his shopaholic wife, the Polish construction worker, the Hungarian nanny, the African meter maid, the Kenyan soccer player, the lovely old lady and her conceptual artist grandson, and the Pakistani news seller and his family. The vignettes of these people form a morality tale that is so well done, and so well written that it is a joy to read.

Revolutionary Summer by Joseph J. Ellis
All of Joseph Ellis' books are very good, well-written and informative. This is definitely for fans of John and Abigail. The setting is New York in 1776. The British HAD to win. The (then) colonies had only not to lose. They escaped to fight another day.

The Burgess Boys by Elizabeth Strout
I enjoy the author's direct manner of writing and observations of all sides of an issue. The issue at hand is a small town in Maine dealing with an influx of immigrants and the Burgess family's involvement. I found it compelling to read and very much on my mind linked with issues of the day.

We have started up our Summer ARC program again - here are some reviews from our new batch of readers:
Pegasus, Olympus at War by Kate O'HearnRecommended by Julia, age 9Pegasus, Olympus at War, is a really good book. Read the first book before you read this one because otherwise you won't get some of the stuff in this book. In this book, Emily, Pegasus, Joel, Cupid and Paelen came down from Olympus to Earth to save Emily's father from the CRU. They had many adventures, which made the book exciting to read. This book was scarier than the first one because there were more evil sides and no one could help them because the gods were focused on saving Olympus. I would recommend this book to people who like books about Roman mythological characters. The Last Dogs: Dark Waters by Christopher HoltRecommended by Gina, age 12Max, Gizmo, and Rocky are on the hunt for their people in this second installment of The Last Dogs trilogy. In a new place, the three aren't sure who they can trust. Are their new friends hiding something? What are the true intentions of Gertrude the pig, who is supposed to help them? And what are people, who were supposed to all be gone, doing in the city? On a journey that takes them all over, Max, Gizmo, and Rocky must find the clues to join their people. This book is suspenseful but very funny as well. Odessa Again by Dana ReinhardtRecommended by Julia, age 11In this book, Odessa Green-Light discovers she can go back in time through her attic. She attempts to use her powers for good, and to fix the things that matter most. I liked how in this book, Odessa at first dislikes her brother and ignores him, but eventually uses her powers to help him. I also loved all the different characters and the different elements to this book. I would recommend this book to kids in 4th grade who like books that are realistic and about daily life, but also have one thing that is fantasy-like. Sidekicked by John David Anderson (due on our shelves on June 25th)Recommended by Eleanor, age 13Sidekicked was an awesome book that all my siblings loved. It is about a boy named Drew who is part of a secret sidekick organization called H.E.R.O and is located in his school's basement. Along with his best friend Jenna, he fights crime as the sensationalist. His powers are the ability to hear, smell, taste, see and feel better that anyone else. With a great conclusion that surprises everyone, this is an awesome book that is funny and filled with action and drama! Your review could be HERE!We are looking for Summer ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) Reviewers between the ages of 8 and 17. If you are interested, you will get the opportunity to read books before they are published and possibly get your reviews published in our store's newsletter or on our social media sites. Print out and fill in the attached enrollment form and return it to either Lisa or Margaret at the store. The program runs from May 26, 2013 - September 15, 2013.

We love our happy Lab puppies! This adorable girl is a 1 1/2 year-old Chocolate Lab. Lorna was lucky enough to meet Ivy and said she is super friendly and loves to give kisses.
We had a fun doggie connection with our dog of the week in the last newsletter, Daisy - Glen of Imaal Terrier - a breed that originated in County Wicklow, Ireland. Another newsletter subscriber emailed in hopes that their Glens could meet! I am still waiting to hear if they actually did ...
