Welcome to winter in New England - aka Snowmageddon! As a former California girl, I love the snow - but even I have had enough. Especially when it messes with our events! We will keep you updated on our website if we need to close for the snow (again!). Just make sure you have plenty of books on hand!
Next Thursday, February 28th at 7:00pm, after you dig yourself out, please join us for a great evening of poetry and prose with readings from Tehila Lieberman's short story collection Venus in the Afternoon. Joining Tehila for this literary event will be poet and Salamander Editor in Chief Jenny Barber, reading from her new book of poetry, Given Away.
Come meet our new neighbors next Wednesday, February, 27th at 10:00 am. Kidville teachers will be here at Wellesley Books leading stories, songs, and crafts all about "Bears in the Woods". Bring your little bears and join the fun! This event is free!
First on our March Madness calendar of events, on Friday, March 1st at 7:00pm, meet "compulsively readable" (The Fiction Review) internationally bestselling local author Randy Susan Meyers when she comes to Wellesley Books to share her newest novel, The Comfort of Lies. Crackling with conflict and set against the backdrop of Boston neighborhoods, The Comfort of Lies follows three women as they set out to uncover and protect the dangerous truths of their families. Meyers will be discussing her novels, taking questions from fans, and signing books. On Saturday, March 2nd at 2:00pm, the amazing Jane Yolen and her daughter Heidi Stemple will be at the Wellesley Free Library. Was Delilah a harlot or a hero? Was Catherine the Great a great ruler, or just plain ruthless? Jane and Heidi will talk about infamous historical women when they introduce their sassy new book, Bad Girls: Sirens, Jezebels, Murderesses, and Other Female Villains. Come dressed as your favorite villain and get a cool giveaway! The Wellesley Theater Project will be performing a reader's theater production featuring characters and histories from the book. Great for ages 10 - 13.
March is jam-packed, with Youth Art Month, bestselling authors, and duct tape crafts - truly something for everyone - so be sure and check out all the events on our website. And check out the bottom name on that list to the right - yes, MO WILLEMS is coming to Wellesley!
After a rollicking debut, Bill's Book Group for Guys is ready for round 2 on Thursday, March 28th at 7:00pm! Join Wellesley Books owner Bill Kohli for a beer, glass of red wine, or maybe a little single malt whisky and a lively discussion of Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk by Ben Fountain. $25 buys book and ticket for the book club event, including libations.

"You have to write the book that wants to be written. And if the book will be too difficult for grown-ups, then you write it for children." ~Madeleine L'Engle

The Aviator's Wife by Melanie Benjamin
I was aware of Anne Morrow Lindberg through her famous book, Gift From the Sea. I also knew general things about the kidnapping and Nazi ties. This book gives a fascinating and in-depth account of their lives and just how accomplished Anne was in her own right.

|
The Middlesteins by Jami Attenberg
This is the story of Edie Middlestein, overweight, overbearing yet a loving part of her suburban Jewish family who are all trying to save her. The drama, the heartbreak, the humor, the pathos of this family are beautifully written in this unforgettable novel.

The House Girl by Tara Conklin
Two strong women - Lena, a high-powered attorney in 2012, and Josephine, a house slave and artist in 1852 - are at the center of this fabulous tale. Told in alternating voices, their stories are mesmerizing. Usually when you have two different narrators, you find yourself favoring one over the other. In The House Girl, you become equally invested in each woman and her story. As you go from glass tower law offices to antebellum mansions and the Underground Railroad, this is a novel you won't want to put down.

In Darkness by Nick Lake
This year's Prinze Award winner is a powerful story about a young man growing up in Haiti's most dangerous slums. Shorty has seen his father murdered and learns that his twin sister has been kidnapped by a rival gang. He becomes a violent thug himself, on one hand bringing food and medical supplies into the ghetto, and on the other attacking other gangsters in drive-by shootings. When the earthquake hits, he is buried in the hospital and suddenly comes face to face with his mortality and the kind of life he has led. Paralleling his story is the story of Toussaint Louverture, the slave who brilliantly led an uprising to free Haiti's slaves. In a mysterious way these two lives become intermingled. Saturated with the voodoo atmosphere of Haitian culture, this moving novel illuminates the history of Haiti and the stories of two very different yet ultimately bonded characters.

Brand New Displays with great books in the kids' section!
For Beginner Readers.... A new selection of paperback Toon Books has arrived. These first comics for beginner readers are charmingly illustrated and the stories are full of humor and sweetness.
For Middle Grade Readers... The Runaway King: Book 2 of the Ascendance Trilogy by J. A. Nielsen There is plenty of action, intrigue and sword play in this sequel to one of our favorite summer recommendations The False Prince.
For YA Readers.. Out of the Easy by Ruta Sepetys This historical novel is set in the 1950's in New Orleans and involves brothels, a murder in the French Quarter and seventeen-year-old Josie Moraine who gets caught up in it all. Who can she trust? Where will she turn? Another great read from Ruta Sepetys, the author of Between Shades of Gray.
For Readers of all Ages....
New books in the Discover More series engage readers in the world of nonfiction. The new titles include books about "Puppies and Kittens" for beginner readers, "Sharks" for older elementary school readers and "Disasters" and "World War II" for more expert readers. Enlightening reads for those looking to learn a little more about the world in which they live. Exclamation Mark by Amy Krouse Rosenthal & Tom Lichtenheld
An exclamation point does not look like a period and it does not look like a question mark. Where does it fit in? For those that are into punctuation and those that are just learning about it, a humorous look at discovering your talents.

The adorable and charming Lotta came in the store this afternoon browsing for a birthday gift for a friend. I discovered what kind of Lab my Biscuit is because she could be Lotta's sister! Lotta does the same thing with her ears that Biscuit does, making her look unhappy in photos. Lotta is a 5 1/2 year-old Field Lab and was adopted from Buddy Dog in Sudbury. In addition to being such a sweetheart, she is also bilingual - following commands in both English and Swedish. Can you tell she made my day? I will post Lotta and a photo of Biscuit on our Facebook page so you can see how alike they look.
