Greetings!

Good morning!  Becky Ivory here...Director of Communications here at the American Lands Council.  To those of you who took the time to outline an Op-Ed to share last week, THANK YOU!  This week we're going to take a minute to look at Step Five in our Six Simple Steps, and see how the federal mismanagement of public lands has been destroying our wilderness, rather than saving it as so many would have you believe.

Step Five

People who want to keep federal control over our lands are constantly trying to make people believe that the states cannot afford to take over the maintenance of our public lands, that states will destroy public lands in their efforts to make money.  Nothing could be further from the truth.

Who has more motivation to preserve the beauty and use of our public lands...a federal bueaucracy thousands of miles away, or those of us who live on, and escape to the beautiful wildernesses of the West?  No one cares more for our land than we do.  The Transfer of Public Lands Act is about making those decisions at a local level, where the people most affected have a say in the decision.

This attachment, "Turning a Profit on Public Forests", is just one example of how states can, and already do, manage public lands more efficiently and conscientiously than a budget-strapped, distant federal bureaucracy. Another example is given in an excellent document created by Utah's Constitutional Defense Council, entitled, A Case Statement for HB 148, the TPLA.

This week, we would like to ask you to:

Thank you for taking the time to learn the truth.  Only when we know the truth can we then take efficient and affective action.

Remember, it's really this simple:

  • It has been done before!
  • The promise is the same!
  • Be part of the only solution big enough!

Sincerely,

Becky Ivory
