This Week's Challenge:
  • Outline a basic Op-Ed that
    expresses
how federal mismanagement of Public Lands has affected you and/or your community.
  • Get feedback from at least one person.
  • Look for an opportunity to share your Op-Ed.
What is
Are you aware that you are NOW living in Seuestration?
What exactly is "Sequestration"?

Greetings!

Happy March!  May the sunshine find its way to your neck of the woods soon!  This is Becky Ivory again, Director of Communications for the ALC.  For the past couple of weeks, we have talked about some of the steps in our Six Simple Steps plan and today we are going to discuss Step Four - the power in a good Op-Ed!

Step Four

Op-Ed is abbreviated from "opposite the editorial page" (though often mistaken for opinion-editorial).  Simply put, it means that you are not happy with an editorial that appeared on the editorial page of a newspaper or online publication and want to share the opposing view.

Anyone can submit an Op-Ed, but perhaps you aren't comfortable with your writing skills.  Or you may fear that you won't be able to articulate your views well.  Don't let these fears stop you.  You can use information off of our American Lands Council website to help you articulate the facts.  There you will find other Op-Eds written by Commissioners and leading business men that you can draw upon for knowledge.  The great thing about writing is that you can take the time you need to work and re-work the wording until you have a product you feel comfortable with.  Feel free to run an Op-Ed past us if you want help checking your facts or wording.

Not only can you write an Op-Ed yourself, but you probably know people in the community whose voices are respected who would be willing to explain how the Transfer of Public Lands will create greater state sovereignty, as well as strengthen our schools and our economies.  Have them share how it affects them, their businesses and communities specifically.  Many people are not aware of the challenges we face in our daily lives from federal mismanagement of our public lands and sharing real experiences gives them a clearer perspective.

This week we would like to ask you to:

  • Search the papers and online forums for a place that would be perfect to share an Op-Ed in support of the TPLA.
  • Write a simple Op-Ed or find someone in your community to do so.
  • Please share your Op-Eds with us via email or Twitter (@AmericanLandsCN).  We love to share them with others!

Sincerely,

Becky Ivory
