North Central Michigan College's 19th annual Look Out for The Cookout is Sunday, September 11th from noon to 3:00 p.m. on the Petoskey campus. Enjoy a picnic-style lunch of pulled pork, hot dogs, corn on the cob, marinated bean salad, quinoa salad and cookie bars. A Kidz Zone in the gym with four bouncy houses, carnival games and other activities. There will also be a big screen with the football game for parents. Outside, enjoy human sim-man demonstrations and tours of the Fab Lab and more. There will also be a gift basket raffle. Ticket prices are $8 per person. Children five and under eat free. A fundraising event for Big Water Creative Arts, Inc., the second September Songfest at Crooked Tree Arts Center in Petoskey is coming soon and will feature a special performance by Music Meets Canvas, three incredibly talented Michigan songwriters in the round and an appearance by the Petoskey Montessori Children's House music class performing some of their own original songs! Big Water Creative Arts, Inc. is passionate about mentoring children and adults in the art of songwriting! The Little Traverse Civic Theatre will be hosting auditions for its upcoming play "A Wonderful Life," auditions are open to people of all ages and the play has a cast of 30-40 people. Lead roles as well as secondary and supporting roles are available so anyone who wants a part in the play can have an opportunity to do so if they pass their audition. Auditions for the play will take place at the Crooked Tree Arts Center in Petoskey from 6-9 p.m. on both Monday, Sept. 12th and Wednesday, Sept. 14th. North Central Michigan College's luncheon lecture series for the fall semester will begin on Friday, September 23. A wide variety of topics will be featured including the harp, newspapers and democracy, Michigan's energy outlook, archaeological excavations at Colonial Michilimackinac, how the election was won, turbine blades and careers in aviation. The Essence of Emmet historical collaborative will host its second program of the year on a topic of local intrigue, the intentional bombing of Waugoshance Point lighthouse during World War II. The program will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 28th, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Community Building at the Fairgrounds located at 1129 Charlevoix Ave. (U.S. 31) in Petoskey. The program is free and open to the public. Also at this event, the Essence group's annual history awards will be bestowed upon those individuals and organizations who work hard to preserve and protect this region's one-of-a-kind history.
