The Petoskey Regional Chamber of Commerce invites you to attend the 14th Annual Festival on the Bay, THIS WEEKEND, August 19-20, at the Bay Front Park! Every year, visitors enjoy great music inside the Entertainment Tent and a fun Children's Area all weekend. Other activities include Chalk the Walk, A Silent Disco, Wine on the Water, The BIG Art Show, a Petting Zoo and so much more!

The YMCA of Northern Michigan's 2nd Annual 4.9770K Color Fun Run is back! Join us on Saturday, August 20th when once again, the YMCA of Northern Michigan is giving the community an opportunity to become human tie-dye and potentially win some fabulous prizes while you're at it! Raven Hill hosts "NASA in Your Neighborhood" on Saturday, Aug. 20th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. NASA Glenn outreach staff will be on site to present NASA themes. Space enthusiasts of all ages can take part in 'make-it, take-it activities', and demonstration carts will be available. In addition to NASA activities, Raven Hill Discovery Center offers families an opportunity to explore engineering careers. Paddle 4 The Pool, a 4-mile predicted time contest is August 20th, 2016 at Ferry Beach in Charlevoix, MI from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Cost Per Paddle Craft: $65 by August 12th, $75 after August 12th. Info: Estimate your elapsed time for this 4-mile paddle event and if you come close, you could be one of our winners. Former U.S. Congressman Lt. Col. Allen B. West will team up with Dr. Timothy G. Nash, Senior Vice President and Director of the McNair Center at Northwood for the sixth annual Northwood University Policy Forum, "Freedom, Strength and the Future of the U.S. and Global Economies." This free, public event is Saturday, August 20th at 11 a.m., at the Bay Harbor Yacht Club, 4300 Vista Drive. West and Nash will present on the state of the Michigan, U.S. and global economies while evaluating the historical values that have made the U.S. the most successful economy in recorded history. They will discuss the current state of the global geopolitical climate and the impact the fall 2016 elections will have on the future of the country. Get details here.

Coffee @ Ten with Darrell Lawson: A Michigan Big Year. On Tuesday, August 23rd, join CTAC-Petoskey for a Coffee @ Ten lecture with Petoskey Audubon President, Darrell Lawson. Lawson spent 2014 attempting to see as many bird species in the state of Michigan as he could. Come hear him talk about the experience, birds seen, birds missed, and reflections after the fact. Photos, videos, maps, and of course, the final list, will be displayed as well. Call for volunteers! The 9th Annual Microbrew & Music Festival is right around the corner, kicking off Friday, August 26th! Two days of craft brews, good food, and local and national star-studded acts, all happening in the downtown Traverse City's Commons to give a proper farewell to our beautiful Northern Michigan summer. Sounds like fun, right? We are looking for folks to pour beers, sell tickets, and be site managers of brew zones. In exchange for your help, you'll receive free entry into the festival, support Crosshatch's arts and agriculture programs, and have a knee-slappin', toe-tappin' good time. Interested? North Central Michigan College's 19th annual Look Out for The Cookout is Sunday, September 11th from noon to 3:00 p.m. on the Petoskey campus.
Enjoy a picnic-style lunch of pulled pork, hot dogs, corn on the cob, marinated bean salad, quinoa salad and cookie bars. A Kidz Zone in the gym with four bouncy houses, carnival games and other activities. There will also be a big screen with the football game for parents. Outside, enjoy human sim-man demonstrations and tours of the Fab Lab and more. There will also be a gift basket raffle. Ticket prices are $8 per person. Children five and under eat free. Yoga in the Woods Series. Take your yoga class outdoors at Little Traverse Conservancy's Hailand Helstrom Preserve. Join us every Sunday in August from 9-10:30 am with our new Yoga in the Woods Summer Series, offered at no charge! Yoga Alliance Certified instructor Alie Church will guide participants through an hour-long, multi-level, slow flow Vinyasa class at a preserve in the Emmet County area. The location will be confirmed on our website prior to class. Mats are not provided - please bring your own mat, blanket, or towel to put on the ground during the practice. Could YOU handle it? Attend this interactive simulation and find out! This simulation is an experience that is designed to help participants understand what it's like to live month to month on a limited income. The goal is to help people rethink what it is to struggle financially and sensitize participants to the issues far too many local families face. By participating in this Simulation Workshop you can walk a mile in the shoes of 38% of the households in our communities. Participants will act as a family and face the everyday struggles that low income families face. The simulation will occur September 16th at the Petoskey United Methodist Church from 1-4pm.
