Crooked Tree Arts Center's next Coffee @ Ten lecture is Tuesday July 19th with Kevin Barton. Kevin will give a walking tour of his show, Twenty Years in Retrospect: Painting and Tales Lost to the Wind, and discuss his progression as an artist. Over the course of nearly two decades, Kevin Barton of Petoskey has become one of northern Michigan's most well-collected artists. His paintings fill local homes and galleries, and hang in collections across the nation. Calling all Volunteers! Volunteers are needed for the 2016 Bay Harbor Fine Art & Fine Craft Festival taking place in the Village at Bay Harbor July 29, 30 and 31. Volunteers will be involved in the kids' Make and Take Art Tent, artist support, and other general fun event tasks! North Central Michigan College and the Charlevoix-Emmet Intermediate School District are pleased to offer a new career-focused, three-day career academy, Tuesday - Thursday, August 16-18 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The academy gives students an opportunity to explore manufacturing technologies as a career pathway, participate in tours of local manufacturers, plan a project and produce personalized products in North Central's stationary lab and state-of-the-art mobile digital fabrication lab, the Fab Lab. The academy is for students in grades 8-11 this fall who are interested in learning manufacturing and digital fabrication skills. The cost is $60 which includes a T-shirt and take home project. A total of 30 volunteers are needed to help run a poverty simulation. Volunteers will represent police, school personnel, pawn shop owner, utility company, and social service organization. They will be stationed at a table representing a service during four 15 minute "weeks". Some volunteer roles are not stationed at a table, they will be walking around during this role play. All directions will be shared with you and there are very easy instructions. We also need some volunteers for set up and take down. Charlevoix Country Club to Rebuild! Owner Fred Taylor plans to rebuild as soon as possible, making improvements to the Clubhouse in the process. The goal is for the new Pro Shop and Restaurant space to be ready by Memorial weekend 2017 with Event space to follow. Meanwhile, the many businesses of the Club are carrying on! The Argonne Supper Club is back up and running in their former location on Boyne City Road. Heatherwoods Golf Course continues its busiest season ever. Charlevoix Fitness is running as usual. Shanahan's Barn Event and Wedding season continues uninterrupted.The Country Club is incredibly grateful for the outpouring of sympathy and communitywide support received during this trying time.
The Women's Resource Center of Northern Michigan (WRCNM) is seeking Tribute award nominations to honor extraordinary women, female students and men in northern Michigan for their personal accomplishments, commitment to strengthening the community and improving the lives of those who live here.
