Candidate's Forum, Emmet County Commission - Next Wednesday
There is a lot of interest and a crowded field in the race for Emmet County Commission this year, and many of those seats will be determined in the Aug. 2nd primary election.  To help voters prepare, four organizations are teaming up to host a Candidate's Forum on Wed. June 29th in the Iron Horse Café at North Central Michigan College.  Doors will open for a Meet & Greet at 6:00 p.m. and the program will begin at 7:00.  
 
This will be a moderated forum with questions provided by the event's organizers.  Audience members with specific questions are urged to come to the Meet & Greet and ask the candidates directly.  The forum is sponsored by the Petoskey Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Petoskey News-Review, Emmet Association of Realtors and North Central Michigan College.  Refreshments will be provided by Angel Heart Home Care.  The event is free and open to the public.  Pre-registration is not necessary.

Bay Harbor Foundation Beer & Wine Festival is June 24th from 4-8 p.m. at the Bay Harbor Village Marina. Taste, Savor, See, and Listen during this wonderful event that takes place during the Bay Harbor Vintage Car & Boat Festival. The 18th Annual Bay Harbor Vintage Car and Boat Festival Friday June 24th - Saturday June 25th.
The highlight of Vintage Weekend is the Parade of Vintage Cars and Display of Vintage Boats, held Saturday afternoon and capped off with a drive-by awards ceremony. The parade is free to the public. The Waterfront Wine Festival is Saturday, June 25th, 4-7 p.m. on the Harbor Springs waterfront.
  In its 11th year, the event promises once again a fantastic celebration of wine and food with some exciting new offerings.  Sponsored by the Harbor Springs Area of Commerce, the festival will this year offer the wines of 11 Northern Michigan distributors and vintners along with the foods from local food purveyors. Tickets are available for $20 through June 24; $30 the day of the Festival. VIP tickets are $50 in advance. The Young Americans Special Concert One night only is Sunday, June 26th beginning

The Petoskey High School Hockey Boosters will be hosting its 9th Annual "Slap Shot" Golf Scramble on Sunday, June 26th
, 2016 at Hidden River Golf Club in Brutus, Michigan.  Registration begins at 11 a.m. with a 1 p.m. shotgun start.  The event, which is the largest fundraiser for the Petoskey High School Hockey program, will feature a $10,000 hole in one contest, a $2,500 putting contest, and a dinner following golf with live/silent auction.  For more information, please visit

Meet the Author: Lawrence Earle Johnson on Monday, June 27th at 7:00 p.m. at the Carnegie Building. Join mystery author Lawrence Earle Johnson where he will discuss the inspiration for his acclaimed suspense thriller novel, Death Sine.  Johnson will focus his discussion on his background in criminal justice, as well as the history and genesis of Death Sine.  Following the event, he will hold an open-forum Q&A, as well as a book signing. The Women's Club Annual Art Fair at Nub's Bob in Harbor Springs is on Wednesday July 13th from 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. This popular event that draws more than 100 artists from as far away as Florida and California. Admission is $3.00 per person, and children 12 and under will be admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Once again the Slightly Gourmet Cafe will offer lunch fare and deserts for fair goers to enjoy while the shop. All proceeds from the Art Fair support local charities, enabling The Women's Club to contribute to many community projects as well as sponsor a number of academic scholarships for local students. In an effort to better serve our Regional Center students in lower Northern Michigan, Lake Superior State University (LSSU) will be closing its office in the Gaylord Regional Center
on June 30th. Classes will be consolidated to the Petoskey Regional Center, which is located on the campus of North Central Michigan College.  To provide even greater flexibility for our students, additional seated, blended, and wholly-online classes are being explored. LSSU offers a wide variety of bachelor degree programs at its main campus in Sault Ste. Marie and at regional centers in Petoskey and Escanaba.
