Downtown Petoskey's Summer Open House is today, Friday, June 3rd. With events in Pennsylvania Park all evening like the Downtown Fashion Show, Taste of Downtown & Drink Tent, the Petoskey Steel Drum Band, live music from Charlie Millard, and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang as the Movie in the Park at Dark, plus Downtown stores staying open late with fun promotions, you won't want to miss this night! There will be a few community additions in Pennsylvania Park as well such as the YMCA of Northern Michigan's Bounce House, Emmet County Recycling's new curbside bins, North Central Michigan College's Fab Lab and Ambulance, and The Graphic's photobooth with the Buy Nearby Guy. The fun starts at 5:30 pm in Downtown Petoskey!

Dirty Dog Dash at Boyne Mountain Resort on June 4th. Register now for the 7th annual Dirty Dog Dash - Boyne Mountain's 5k adventure race that will have you wading through mud and climbing obstacles all the way to the finish line. Crooked Tree Arts Center-Petoskey Annual Summer Paint Out will take place on Saturday, June 4th. Artists and art patrons alike have the opportunity to enjoy a favorite summer event that has been going on for over a decade. Artists of all skill levels, ages 18 and up, are encouraged to participate in this plein air event. The Wet Paint Sale and Reception will begin at 5:00 p.m. with prizes awarded for First, Second, and Third Place, in the amounts of $500, $250, and $100, respectively. Smart Commute Emmet wants to you to try getting to work SMARTER. This is a week-long event designed to increase awareness of, and demonstrate the ability to use, alternative methods of commuting that provide health, economic and environmental benefits through a fun-filled week of community engagement activities. iTri Kids Triathlon Race and Training Camp at the Charlevoix Area Community Pool, June 11th. This event is open to youth in grades Preschool-12th. We have four different swim-bike-run courses designed to match any skill level, and allow the use of a personal flotation device for the Green and Blue courses. Drop-in for the optional training camp, acclimating kids to their course and providing conditioning for the event. Training camp is available now through June 10th, Tuesday - Friday from 4 pm-6 pm. Emmet County will host Kayak National Marathon Championships for the first time in Michigan June 11th-12th. Race course is Crooked and Pickerel Lakes, Inland Waterway; registration still open. This event doubles as the annual USA Marathon Kayak Team Trials, the assessment race that determines who will make the U.S. National Team. The athletes selected at this race will represent the USA in the Marathon World Championships, to be held in September in Brandenburg German. Hospice of Northwest Michigan and the Health Department invite you to join us for our Celebration of Life & A Time to Remember Memorial Service on Sunday June 12th at 4:00 p.m. at the Depot Beach Pavillion located at 207 Chicago Ave, Charlevoix. This community non-denominational service of healing, remembering and renewal is open to all in the community who have experienced the loss of a loved one. Our service will include acknowledgment of those patients and families who have received care through Hospice of Northwest Michigan during the past year and community members are invited to bring a photo of your loved one to post on our remembrance board. The event will run from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Petoskey Northwest Michigan Works! Center, 2240 Mitchell Park Drive. The Career Connection will feature a panel of local health care and hospitality employers including McClaren Hospitals, Boyne Resorts, and Bay Harbor Resort. The employers will discuss their open positions, company benefits, and work culture. Job seekers attending the event should bring copies of their résumé and come prepared for an interview after the panel discussion. The Little Traverse Historical Society's 35th annual Taste of the North is June 18th from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the Little Traverse History Museum. Char-Em United Way advocates for early childhood literacy and that is what Day of Action is all about. We have volunteer readers go into libraries, bookstores, and daycares to deliver literacy kits, read a story and, if time allows, help with a craft. The literacy kits are given to each child and include activity books, crayons, scissors and much more. Here in Petoskey we will be reading & delivering kits to children at the Petoskey Library, Children's Learning Center, Stepping Stones, Munchkin Manor and NM Child Development.
