Citizen Scientists Wanted for Stream Monitoring Program. Free training Saturday, May 14th

The Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council is looking for help from volunteers in the community that are interested in learning about water quality and gaining hands-on experience through monitoring rivers and creeks in Antrim, Charlevoix, Emmet, and Cheboygan counties. Chamber Music Potpourri. On Sunday, May 15th, at 4:00 p.m., at the First Presbyterian Church in Harbor Springs.
The Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra will present a Sunday Series Recital, featuring ensemble musicians Steven Leonard, violin; Ann Schoelles, viola; Elizabeth Bert, cello; and Lynn Hansen, oboe. The program features a variety of instrumental combinations and composers. The Sunday Series of Recitals are free of charge. A free-will offering will be taken at the event. The Local Food Alliance of Northern Michigan and North Central Michigan College will host a community conversation about how food and farming contribute to the regional economy and quality of life. Laura Goddeeris, MSU Center for Regional Food Systems planning specialist, will share lessons learned from communities where local food and farm businesses are vibrant elements of the economy and culture. McGulpin Point Lighthouse and Historic Site reopens for 2016 season on May 21st
with new offerings that include a Discovery Trail that tells the story of this property over thousands of years. McGulpin Point will reopen at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, with closing time at 8 p.m. Beginning Sunday, May 22 and until the lighthouse closes in the fall, hours will be daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is by freewill donation.  The Emmet County Relay For Life is on Saturday, May 21st, from 12 noon - 12 midnight.

Camp Daggett is seeking kayakers to participate in the Kayak for a Cause on Walloon Lake fundraiser, July 16th and 17th
from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Participants will paddle the thirty-mile shoreline of beautiful Walloon Lake and are asked to raise a minimum of $50 in pledges to support Camp Daggett's Adventure Center program. Camp Daggett asks interested kayakers to sign up as soon as possible at

North Central Michigan College celebrated instructor Larry Cummings' 45 years of teaching at an employee recognition event in April
