The Last Good Country: Walloon Lake, An Ernest Hemingway Occasion presented by Hotel Walloon. Friday, April 29th,
2016 starts this three-day event featuring meet-n-greet with Valerie Hemingway, who was Ernest's personal assistant and daughter-in-law, John Cohassey, a Hemingway author and Chris Struble, President of Michigan Hemingway Society. Saturday includes tours of Horton Bay and Walloon Lake that will visit Hemingway's favorite haunts. That evening guests will enjoy a "Nick Adam's" Feast at the Walloon Lake Inn accompanied by tales of Hemingway. Northern Michigan Equine Therapy is hosting a Spring Cleaning Open House on April 30th from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
This is a great opportunity for people in our community to get outside and volunteer their time to help NMET get ready for our busy season. NMET spring cleaning day involves: horse and goat stall redressing, horse trail clearing/clean up, arena pick up, fencing, yard raking and pond clean up etc. We recommend wearing clothes that can get farm dirty. Please bring a rake, tree trimmers, gardening tools etc if possible. This is a fantastic way for the community to see what NMET provides and it gets you up close and personal with our many therapy horses, goats, and chickens. Super Saturday for Kids! On Saturday, April 30th, kindergartners through eighth graders can spend the day experiencing the arts at Crooked Tree Arts Center
- Petoskey. Kids will rotate through workshops in the visual and performing arts, enjoy a supervised pizza lunch, and have tons of fun in the process! The four activities planned for the day will give kids the opportunity to experience the drawing process, pottery design and implementation, an introduction to jazz, and a hands-on culinary activity all during their day at CTAC. Raven Hill Discovery Center is celebrating its 25th year of providing informal science, history and art Sunday, May 1st
from Noon to 4 p.m.  Explore the hands-on museum, see the animals, sample some special treats, visit with new and old friends and investigate outdoors. Families can also journey on to Raven Ridge Nature Preserve next door.  Visitors can also walk the labyrinth and look for tadpoles and other signs of spring at the pond. Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra Concert:  Italy - Vivaldi's Four Seasons and Selections from Respighi is May 1st

Today's concert features Antonio Vivaldi's Four Seasons concertos first published in 1725. CTAC "First Fridays for Foodies" with Petoskey Cheese on Friday, May
6th
from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Petoskey Cheese will present a fun and interactive demonstration for attendees to learn more about varietals of wine, different styles of cheese, and how and why they pair together. Local Cheesemonger, Katie Potts, will walk you through tasting cheese, a brief cheese lesson, and some of her favorite paring tips. Crooked Tree Arts Center and the Petoskey District Library will present "First Fridays for Foodies" culinary series in CTAC's newly renovated commercial kitchen. North Central Michigan College's Luncheon Lecture will look at the health impacts of climate change on Friday, May 6th
. The luncheon will be in the Library Conference Center. Lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. and the program begins at noon. Elizabeth Del Buono, M.D., surgical pathologist, Munson Medical Center, will review the health impacts of climate change, explain why it is necessary to address these issue, and suggest policies that health professionals and others should support to transition quickly to a low-carbon economy. Dr. Del Buono is a volunteer with a local chapter of the non-partisan grassroots group Citizens' Climate Lobby. Reservations are required.  Call 231-348-6600 or email

Camp Daggett is seeking kayakers to participate in the Kayak for a Cause on Walloon Lake fundraiser, July 16th and 17th

The 2015 ArtPrize People's Choice Award winner, "Northwood Awakening" by Ann and Steve Loveless is now on display at CTAC-Petoskey.
Steve, a landscape photographer, and Ann, a textile artist, are a husband and wife artistic duo from Frankfort, Michigan. Together they melded photography and quilting into their trademarked PhotoFiber composition which showcases a quintessential northern Michigan flora scene. The Loveless' piece is open for viewing from now until Saturday, May 14 in Crooked Tree Arts Center's Bonfield Gallery. The award-winning creation will be surrounded by area youth artwork as part of CTAC's Annual Youth Art Show.
