Carnival Weekend at Boyne Mountain Resort, March 18th-20th. The biggest and best spring celebration in the north is back,
Carnival Weekend. Nearly every establishment offers a party with free entry to ages 21+. From Friday's Kick-off Party with Nerdvana 90s Band to the Foggy Goggles Pool Party and an evening with Chicago's Too White Crew in the Civic Center on Saturday night, the party never ends. Mark your calendar for Friday April 22nd and the annual Instant Wine Cellar fundraiser supporting Volunteer Connections,
a web-based volunteer matching program with over 80 agencies offering volunteer opportunities. The event will be at The Perry Hotel from 7 to 10pm.  This fun packed evening includes music, silent auction, food, balloon pop for prizes, Rochambeau (Rock/Paper/Scissors) contest, and the big raffle drawings for the wine and craft beer that will make an Instant Wine Cellar for some lucky participants. 'The Mighty Mac: An Icon in Michigan' is the next Essence of Emmet program on April 27th,
from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Community Building at the Emmet County Fairgrounds in Petoskey. The story of one of Michigan's most recognized and beloved landmarks, will be the topic of the Essence of Emmet historical collaborative's Spring 2016 program. This is a free public event. On this evening, several speakers will offer insights and background on the Mighty Mac, and the public may have the opportunity to hear from several people who worked on the bridge's construction, during a Q & A session. Registrations are now open for the Camp Daggett Mother and Daughter Weekend, Friday through Sunday, May 13th-15th.
Mothers, stepmothers, grandmothers, big sisters, aunts plus their daughters, sisters and granddaughters age 7-17 are invited to an activity-packed weekend at the 5th annual Mother & Daughter Weekend at Camp Daggett. Again, there will be wonderful activities and great food. Cost is $150 for mother/daughter, plus $50 for each additional family member.  Space is limited and registration is on a first come first served basis. The inaugural Stafford's Top of Michigan Community Marathon is scheduled for Saturday, May 28th.
The marathon starts in Charlevoix and follows Little Traverse Wheelway along Lake Michigan, with the finish line in Harbor Springs. A pre-race dinner will be offered in Charlevoix on Friday night, and free shuttle service is available. A 10K Run and 10K non-competitive walk will begin in Petoskey and will finish in Harbor Springs. For those local residents, who are not traveling over spring break and for visitors to beautiful Northern Michigan, the anticipation is building at Raven Hill Discovery Center.
  This year, the excitement is all about trains!  "Trains & Things" invites visitors to explore railroad memorabilia and get involved with some engineering challenges. The exhibit runs daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. starting Saturday, March 28th through Wednesday, April 20th.  The exhibit is open to the public.  The hands-on museum and animals will also be available for visitors to explore and the outdoor exhibits will be open.  General admission is $10 per person. First Presbyterian Church (501 E. Mitchell St. in downtown) begins Holy Week with their Palm Sunday service on March 20th at 9:45 a.m.

The City of Petoskey will begin collecting small yard wastes (materials raked from yards, flowers, shrub clippings, etc.) weekly, every Thursday, beginning April 7
, through May 26, 2016.Please do not place small yard wastes loosely along streets or curb-and-gutter lines as they could be washed into storm sewers. Instead, place them in open, reusable containers that weigh less than 50 pounds. Such containers will be left behind by collectors. Please have yard waste placed within curb-lawn areas of rights-of-way no later than 8:00 A.M. on the day of collection. Grass clippings will not be picked up by collectors but can be delivered along with other small yard waste to the south side of Sheridan Street, directly across from the City's Public Works facility.
