"Galileo's Dream," is this Saturday, March 5th from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Guest House at the Headlands in Mackinaw City with special guest Mike Francis from Newton, Massachusetts, a unique science educator and actor who will step out of the pages of history to delight guests at Headlands as Galileo himself. The local SAFE in Northern Michigan coalition is pleased to host "Drug Trends Info Nights" throughout Emmet and Charlevoix counties. Adults are invited to discover the latest trends in adolescent drug use, and learn how they can help young people stay substance-free. Congressman Dan Benishek will host a Veterans Assistance Fair at North Central Michigan College on Monday, March 7th from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the Iron Horse Café (cafeteria) on the Petoskey campus. Experts will be available to help veterans obtain access to information on benefits, disability claims, fee basis/choice card, eligibility for health care, employment and housing. Castle Farms will be closed to the public on Monday and Tuesday, March 7th and 8th, for improvements. Some staff will be in to answer phones should you need anything or if potential visitors have questions. We will reopen for business as usual on Wednesday March 9th.
Pints for Paws. Enjoy a fun evening sipping your favorite libation all while supporting the homeless animals at Little Traverse Bay Humane Society. Pints for Paws will take place on Wednesday, March 9th, from 4-11 p.m. at Tap 30 in Petoskey and will raise lifesaving funds for the dogs and cats at the shelter. Camp Daggett will raffle off a Venture Isley 14 kayak as a fundraiser for its Adventure Center on April 26. The Outfitter of Harbor Springs donated the kayak, valued at $1,300, as part of the Kayak for a Cause on Walloon Lake, coming July 16-17, 2016. Proceeds from the raffle will support programs and scholarships for school students at the Camp Daggett Adventure Center. Raffle tickets are 1 for $10 or 3 for $25. Top of Michigan Community Marathon - Open Registration. Registration is open for the first ever Charlevoix-to-Harbor Springs marathon. The Stafford's' Top of Michigan Community Marathon will take place May 28, 2016 on the Little Traverse Wheelway, a paved pedestrian path that follows the Lake Michigan shoreline of Little Traverse Bay and offers spectacular views. The relatively flat course is ideal for first-time marathoners or people who hope to get a qualifying time for a bigger race. The race benefits the Top of Michigan Trails Council.
