Several area businesses and residents are collecting water and donations to take to Flint this Saturday, and they are asking for your contribution! Drop off water or a monetary donation at Ruff Life Pet Outfitters in Downtown Petoskey by 6:00 p.m. today, Friday January 15th!
A group of volunteers will be filling cars and trucks with cases of water and will be dropping it all off at designated fire stations and food pantries who express a need this weekend. Saturday January 16th, at 6 p.m.  Mackinaw Trail Winery will be hosting its first seasonal dinner of the year:
an Italian style wine dinner. Join the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra for the first Sunday Series of the 2016 season at 4:00 p.m. on January 17th
at the First Presbyterian Church in Harbor Springs, featuring pianists Robin McCarty and Michelle Mitchum with soprano's Dore' Furstenberg and Jamie Platte. A free will donation will be taken at the door. Crooked Tree Arts Center - Petoskey Swirl Season Continuing in January
with the YMCA of Northern Michigan. On Thursday, January 21st
join the Arts Center for beer, wine, and fabulous farm-to-table hors d'oeuvres a performance by Owen James and Maya Story of the Owen Story Duo will complete the evening's atmosphere. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for the January Swirl, with food and music going until 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 per person the day of Swirl. North Central Michigan College's luncheon lecture series for the winter semester returns,
beginning on Friday, January 29th.  A wide variety of topics will be featured: the history of Michigan's roads, the clarinet, El Niño and La Niña, women magicians, Stephen Brede's 3,800-mile Great Lakes solo voyage, presidential election preview and climate change. All programs in the winter series will be held on Fridays in the College's Library conference room. Lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. and the program begins at noon.

Harbor Springs Ski Team hosts their annual Italian Dinner fundraiser at Nub's Nob in Harbor Springs from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 29th
.Tickets are $10 each and include spaghetti, lasagna, salad, roll, cookie and soda.  A cash bar is available.  Event proceeds offset coaching, equipment and other costs the team incurs during the season.  Tickets are available from Harbor Springs Ski Team members, at the door the night of the event, or by emailing info@HSSkiTeam.com.

Camp Daggett offers great activities for families this winter.
On January 30th and February 27th from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m., experience and enjoy the ambiance of snow-covered trails illuminated by torchlight. Bearcub Outfitters of Petoskey has once again graciously sponsored this family-fun event. Afterward, come inside Camp Daggett's main lodge for a cup of hot chocolate, freshly baked cookies and to warm-up by the crackling fire in camp's beautiful main lodge. Buy raffle tickets for great Bearcub products with all proceeds going to Camp Daggett. Admission is free, donations are encouraged, and snowshoes are available for all ages! Char-Em United Way's third Toast to Literacy fundraising event, will be held February 6, 2016
from 7 to 10 p.m. at Castle Farms in Charlevoix. The event focuses on delightful libations from local breweries and vineyards as well as a delicious food competition by select caterers. Toast to Literacy features wine/beer/mead tastings, food, a silent auction, and live music. All proceeds benefit the Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, a literacy initiative sponsored by Char-Em United Way. The Imagination Library provides free books to children from birth to age five in Charlevoix and Emmet Counties. Admission is $35 at the door or $30 in advance and includes a souvenir glass and food tastings.
