The New Reformation Jazz Band with Dave Oppermann, Bandleader will perform on the Crooked Tree Arts Center - Petoskey stage Saturday, January 9th at 7:30 p.m. The group has given thousands of performances worldwide in its 45 years playing traditional jazz, the only art form considered by many to be original to America.
Traditional jazz encompasses a variety of styles including Dixieland, ragtime, blues, big band and swing, all of which will be showcased during the concert. North Central Michigan College's luncheon lecture series for the winter semester returns, beginning on Friday, January 29th. A wide variety of topics will be featured: the history of Michigan's roads, the clarinet, El Niño and La Niña, women magicians, Stephen Brede's 3,800-mile Great Lakes solo voyage, presidential election preview and climate change. All programs in the winter series will be held on Fridays in the College's Library conference room. Lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. and the program begins at noon.

Camp Daggett offers great activities for families this winter. Char-Em United Way's third Toast to Literacy fundraising event, will be held February 6, 2016 from 7 to 10 p.m. at Castle Farms in Charlevoix. The event focuses on delightful libations from local breweries and vineyards as well as a delicious food competition by select caterers. Toast to Literacy features wine/beer/mead tastings, food, a silent auction, and live music. All proceeds benefit the Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, a literacy initiative sponsored by Char-Em United Way. The Imagination Library provides free books to children from birth to age five in Charlevoix and Emmet Counties. The YMCA of Northern Michigan's Winter Program Session starts next week! We are currently offering Yoga with Yoga Roots, Y Winners Basketball, Y Karate & the H.O.S.T afterschool enrichment program.
