Join the merchants of Downtown Petoskey for the Holiday Open House on December 4th from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.The Holiday Open House begins with an appearance by Santa Claus, who flies in to town to light the giant Christmas tree in Pennsylvania Park!  The streets close down and the merchants open their doors to offer warm holiday greetings and hospitality. The streets are filled with merry entertainment by carolers and the Petoskey High School Steel Drum Band. And don't forget to visit the bean pots and enjoy a cup of soup made by the Petoskey Snowmobile Club or the Kiwanis tent for grilled brats. Come Downtown and enjoy the smiling faces and Christmas fun with your family with this evening that is a holiday tradition!

The Friends of the Petoskey Library presents the Candy Cane Village on Friday, December 4th at the Carnegie Building
at 451 E. Mitchell Street from 6 to 8 p.m. Santa and his helpers will give away free books, cookies and candy canes to all good children who come to the village!  They will have books for teens, too!  Grown-ups can enjoy refreshments while children talk to Santa, select books and make crafts.  Between 5 to 9 p.m., stroll across the street to the main Library for more events on the main floor! Make and take a fun holiday decoration at the kids' craft table, pull up a seat to the big screen to watch a holiday TV cartoon, and help yourself to treats and other great goodies!

Crooked Tree Arts Center - Petoskey is pleased to present the Merry Makers Marketplace. CTAC's galleries will be transformed into an art fair with 20 artists from across the Midwest manning their booths. Patrons will have December 4th and 5th to shop beautifully crafted gifts and goods from regional artists, finding incredible, unique gifts for family and friends. A special Christmas Open House weekend is planned at McGulpin Point Lighthouse and Historic Site to coincide with "Christmas in Mackinaw" festivities
happening throughout the village of Mackinaw City. McGulpin Point will reopen for two days, Saturday and Sunday, December 5th-6th, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The lighthouse is officially closed for the season and this will be the only weekend to visit the lighthouse before it reopens for the season in May 2016. Join McGulpin Point staff for an old-fashioned holiday experience, with refreshments and holiday décor as it would have appeared during the operational years of McGulpin Point, 1869 to 1906. North Central Michigan College's Luncheon Lecture will feature Thongsai Vangyi and his moving story of his family's escape from Laos on Friday, December 11th
. The program will be held in the College's Library conference room. Lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. and the program begins at noon. When the American military evacuated Saigon in 1975, many people were left behind, including thousands of Laotians who had aided the Central Intelligence Agency during the "secret war" across the border from Vietnam. Thongsai Vangyi tells a story of life, chaos and sacrifice in the midst of a war that few people will ever understand. Wreaths Across America Ceremony at Greenwood Cemetery will be held on December 12th
and will begin at 11:45 AM Sharp! Whether you have donated for wreaths or not we would love to have you come and be part of this moving ceremony. The weather forecast for the day before the event is 45 degrees with a chance of rain. This event will be held rain or shine. Every veteran's grave will receive a wreath and donations have already been received for 2016!! You will be thankful you came and participated in honoring our veterans including those in attendance.

Slots are filling fast for the "Sleigh Ride to the North Pole" fundraiser at Northern Michigan Equine Therapy on Dec. 12th

Two Bravo TV Top Chef Stars are coming to Twisted Olive in Petoskey in December.
Restauranteur Kirsten Okeefe and Master. Sommelier Ron Edwards will welcome 2015 Bravo TV Top Chef Winner Mei Lin alongside Top Chef star contestant and Detroit Best Chef James Rigato for a holiday dinner event on December 13th. Guests will be able to interact with the chefs and sommelier while experiencing amazingly paired cuisine and wines. Twisted Olive is offering two seating's on Sunday, December 13th at 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. The cost is $165 per seat and includes five courses and five wines, tax and gratuity. Catch a falling star during the Geminids at the Headlands!
One of the most prolific meteor showers of the year takes place in December, and Headlands staff will host two programs back-to-back to share the show with visitors. Dates of the programs are Saturday to Sunday, December 12th-13th AND Sunday to Monday, December 13th-14th; each night begins at 9 p.m.  Attendees should meet at the Guest House of the Headlands, 15675 Headlands Road, Mackinaw City, MI. Charlevoix Area Community Pool New Year's Celebration - BEACH BASH 2015!

McLean & Eakin Booksellers continues the series of Grand Book Club events for grandparents and their grandchildren to help provide a special time together. The December first selection is Red Kayak by Priscilla Cummings. The club will meet the first Tuesday of each month from 6:30 to 7:30 P.M.  There will be discounts for club members the evenings of the book club.  Children must be between third and fifth grade, and it is suggested that grandparents be fifty-five or older. The YNM's annual campaign is up and running!
Through the generous support of donors, we are able to provide financial assistance and subsidies to deserving individuals and families who are struggling financially. So far in 2015,  we are on pace to provide over $20,000 of direct assistance for summer day camp, after school child care, archery, basketball, soccer, horseback riding, martial arts, Lego robotics, science, art, and more! Together, we can address the challenges that face our young people, our health, & our communities. The American Red Cross encourages eligible donors to end the year with real meaning by donating blood for hospital patients in need.
Holiday activities, severe weather and seasonal illnesses, like the flu, can pull people away from their regular blood donation schedules. This creates a greater need for blood donations this time of year.
