Holiday spirit will be coming your way during the 2015 Stafford's Downtown Petoskey Holiday Parade, Saturday, November 28th, at 10 a.m.
The parade will wind through Downtown streets and end at the Perry Hotel, where children will have those all-important conversations with Santa.

Downtown Petoskey is proud to announce this year's parade will be an excellent way to support local families in need! As part of the Toys for Tots program, the U.S. Marines will collect new, unwrapped toys for the many northern Michigan families who will be unable to afford gifts during the holiday season. On behalf of the Harvest Food & Supply Drive for the Women's Resource Center Safe Home, Grain Train will be collecting items of need. In addition, there will be excellent performances by the Petoskey High School Marching Band, floats, and walking ensembles representing many businesses and nonprofits in the community, and much more!

Camp Daggett is seeking to round up 90 or more Daggetteers to march in the Stafford's Downtown Petoskey Holiday Parade on Saturday, November 28th at 10 a.m. Camp is celebrating its 90th birthday this year and this entry of walkers and float will represent the nearly century of summer camp fun. Anyone that has been associated with Camp - campers, staff, board members, committee members, volunteers - is invited to attend. Camp Daggett attire is recommended but not required. A tent with refreshments of hot cocoa and doughnuts will be set up in the Petoskey High School parking lot for Camp volunteer walkers. Look for the tan tent with the Camp Daggett banner. Shop & Drop at CTAC during Small Business Saturday, November 28th children are welcome to participate in Crooked Tree Arts Center - Petoskey's Shop & Drop. This program provides kids with fun Saturday activities and parents with some free time to shop and support local businesses on Small Business Saturday. From 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. parents can drop their children off at CTAC for organized art projects and activities. Stafford's Top of Michigan Community Marathon registration open; Early-bird rate ends November 30th for the event to be conducted May 28, 2016 on the beautiful Little Traverse Wheelway. Those who sign up prior to Tuesday, December 1 can register for the full marathon for only $65. Coordinated by the Top of Michigan Trails Council, the race will begin in downtown Charlevoix, continue by Petoskey, and finish in downtown Harbor Springs. Proceeds from the race will be used to support the Little Traverse Wheelway and the Petoskey Cross Country and Track and Field teams. A special Christmas Open House weekend is planned at McGulpin Point Lighthouse and Historic Site to coincide with "Christmas in Mackinaw" festivities happening throughout the village of Mackinaw City. McGulpin Point will reopen for two days, Saturday and Sunday, December 5th-6th, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The lighthouse is officially closed for the season and this will be the only weekend to visit the lighthouse before it reopens for the season in May 2016. Join McGulpin Point staff for an old-fashioned holiday experience, with refreshments and holiday décor as it would have appeared during the operational years of McGulpin Point, 1869 to 1906. Catch a falling star during the Geminids at the Headlands! One of the most prolific meteor showers of the year takes place in December, and Headlands staff will host two programs back-to-back to share the show with visitors. Dates of the programs are Saturday to Sunday, December 12th-13th AND Sunday to Monday, December 13th-14th; each night begins at 9 p.m. Attendees should meet at the Guest House of the Headlands, 15675 Headlands Road, Mackinaw City, MI. Oleson's Food Stores in Petoskey and Charlevoix are hosting a "Dollar Drive" Sunday, November 15 through Thanksgiving to support domestic abuse survivors and their children at the Safe Home operated 24/7 by the Women's Resource Center of Northern Michigan. Last year, the Safe Home provided support services, 2,502 nights of refuge and more than 7,500 meals to shelter residents from Antrim, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Emmet and Otsego counties at no charge. The "Dollar Drive" offsets Safe Home food and supply costs that exceed $25,000 annually. Lite 96.3 also hosts a food/supply drive at Petoskey Oleson's store 4-6 p.m., November 24. McLean & Eakin Booksellers continues the series of Grand Book Club events for grandparents and their grandchildren to help provide a special time together. The December first selection is Red Kayak by Priscilla Cummings. The club will meet the first Tuesday of each month from 6:30 to 7:30 P.M. Comfort Keepers of Northern Lower Michigan has announced the first three winners of their Golden Wishes program, giving each of these area seniors the opportunity to have a wish come true. Wish fulfillment events are starting this week and will continue through the rest of the year. The first wish was granted on November 23 to Sanford Sweet of East Jordan. On Friday, November 27 at 1:30 pm, 94-year-old Carmen Miller of Traverse City will receive the Golden Wish. 90-year-old Donna Watkins of Carp Lake will also receive a Golden Wish. Health Department awarded grant for Youth Mental Health First Aid. The Health Department of Northwest Michigan has been awarded a three -year Project AWARE grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to support the training of a diverse group of adults in Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA). This training will help adults detect and respond to mental health needs in youth in Charlevoix, Emmet, and northern Antrim counties.
