Emmet County is asking you to help make the sky as dark as possible for an incredible night of stargazing and meteor-watching awareness-raising (and completely optional) competitions between the towns of Petoskey and Harbor Springs, and Mackinaw City and St. Ignace -- including the Mackinac Bridge! 

Here's how it works
Between the hour of 10:30-11:30 p.m., please turn off your lights inside and out. Then sit back under the stars and enjoy the Perseid Meteor Shower, which peaks overnight at this time.

Register Now for the 20th Annual Chamber Golf Outing!

Registration is now open for the 20th Annual Chamber Golf Outing for teams that participated last year. 
 Teams that did not participate last year can complete and return the registration form right away and be added to a waiting list. After Aug. 14 the number of team openings will be determined and those spots will be filled from the wait list. The registration and sponsor forms can be  downloaded here. This years event takes place Thursday, September 17, 2015 and will be hosted by Petoskey Bay View Country Club.  Chemical Bank is the Marquee sponsor of the annual golf outing. Registration opens at 11:00 a.m. and the shotgun start is at 12:30 p.m. Cost per foursome is $400 and includes box lunch, 18 holes and cart, driving range balls, heavy appetizers, door prizes, raffle chances, live auction and awards ceremony. Gain fabulous visibility with the 144 golfers. Consider sponsoring a hole, sponsoring the driving range or consider supporting this important event by donating a door prize for the outing - we gratefully accept door prizes.  A number of different sponsorship's are available, and pricing is very affordable, click here for all of the details. Contact Nikki Devitt at 347-4150 or via email at nikki@petoskey.com with questions.

PRCC Board of Director Nominations
The Nominating Committee of the Petoskey Regional Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for seats on the chamber's Board of Directors.  This official notice is in accordance with the chamber's by-laws.  Candidates must own or be employed by chamber-member businesses or organizations and should ideally play a leadership role in that business or organization.  If you would like to be considered for a seat on the chamber board, or if you wish to nominate someone for the board, inform Chamber President Carlin Smith at carlin@petoskey.com.  Please use "Board Nomination" in the subject line. 
Regional Business After Hours August 26th at Legs Inn

The Next Business After Hours is August 26th at Legs Inn in Cross Village from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Business After Hours is a well-attended "end-of-the-work-day" networking event designed to help participants make new business contacts, develop potential new customers, and build exposure for their businesses. The Regional Business After Hours at Legs Inn is a much anticipated event, as it is a joint Business After Hours, with Harbor Springs, Cheboygan and Mackinaw City Chambers participating. Admission cost is $7 for members; $12 for not-yet members.

Time for a Labor Law Update
The Northern Michigan Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is inviting chamber members to join them for a Labor Law Update on Fri. Aug. 21, 8:30 a.m. to Noon.  Laura Dinon of Plunkett Cooney will help business owners, managers, and HR Professionals understand the latest changes in labor laws.  The cost to attend is only $20 for SHRM Members and $25 for Non-Members.  Details and pre-registration are available here:    
Proposed Changes to Overtime Rules
The U.S. Department of Labor has proposed changes to overtime rules that would impact businesses.  The changes are targeted at what has been known as "white collar" exemptions for executives and higher level professionals.  The proposed rules would change the current salary threshold for the exemption of employees from overtime pay from $455 per week ($23,660/year) to $921 per week ($47, 892/year).  The Dept. of Labor is currently accepting comments on the proposed changes.  To learn more or to make a comment, visit here.
