Maple Moon Sugar Bush and Winery Celebrated their Grand Opening of America's First and Only Maple Winery. That's right... they make wine out of maple syrup!  The winery is located at 4454 Atkins Road, in Petoskey, Michigan, 49770. There will be a Grand Opening Celebration with activities and specials Friday, June 19th, Saturday, June 20th and Sunday June 21st. Maple Moon Sugarbush and Winery announces the GRAND OPENING of AMERICA'S FIRST AND ONLY MAPLE WINERY.  That's right... they make wine out of maple syrup!  The winery is located at 4454 Atkins Road, in Petoskey, Michigan, 49770.  The Grand Opening will be held Friday, June 19th, Saturday, June 20th and Sunday June 21st, 2015 and will open with a Ribbon Cutting with the Petoskey Chamber of Commerce and various State of Michigan representatives at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, June 19th.  Happy hour, Friday 5-7.  You will find a complete list of weekend activities on the web site or on facebook.  They're just a little different! :)


Little Traverse Bay Quilt Show on Friday, June 19th and Saturday, June 20th at the Emmet County Fairgrounds Community Building

The 13th annual Bay Harbor In-Water Boat Show taking place over Father's Day weekend, June 19th - 21st
. The show will feature the finest in watercraft from pleasure boats to mega-yachts and everything in between! Diverse land displays will also be a part of the show. Our sponsors for the event include Walstrom Marine, Dry Harbour Marine, Irish Boat Shop, Fox Motors, Nature RV & Me, Vespa, Airstream and Skipper Buds.  Be sure to bring the kids for the bounce house/obstacle course combos that will be up all three days of the event.  Also enjoy magic and balloon twisting by Jania Taylor on Saturday afternoon. Petoskey-Bay View Country Club Community Open House and Picnic on Saturday, June 20th
, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.  We are celebrating our 100 years this summer and want to kick it off with a community picnic - free to our guests.  The Epsilon Jass Band will entertain, picnic lunch will be offered for all.  We have members on hand to give tours of the clubhouse and golf course and Jerry Donnelly will be happy to talk about our history.  We have quite a collection of memorabilia too.  Come one come all and celebrate with us. Free Airplane Rides from the Young Eagles Program.
For students, ages 8 - 17 on Saturday June 20th to learn about Flying & General Aviation from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the Harbor Springs Airport. Presented by EAA Chapters 560 & 1087. In the event of high winds, low clouds, rain, or fog, the event is canceled. There is no rain date.

'The Storyteller's Guide to the Night Sky' program on June 20th to welcome summer season at Headlands International Dark Sky Park
will take place from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m., at the Dark Sky Viewing Area at the Headlands; 15675 Headlands Road, Mackinaw City. This event is free, takes place rain or shine; no reservations required!

21st Annual Petoskey Sand Dig Beach Volleyball Tournament is Saturday June 20th and Sunday June 21st
at the Petoskey State Park. Men's and Women's Doubles on Saturday and Coed Doubles on Sunday, plus Pool Play Single Elimination Play-Off. The Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra is presenting its Concerto Winners Encore Concert on June 21st

Friends at the Carnegie presents: Val's Visions for Petoskey District Library on Monday, June 22nd at 7:00 p.m. Friends of the Petoskey Library Carnegie Lecture Series presents Val's Vision for Petoskey District Library with Library Director, Valerie Meyerson at 7:00 p.m., Monday, June 22, 2015. Val will highlight her 3-5 year vision for the library including the technology plan, space re-purposing, community involvement, and other fun changes. The lecture will take place in the Carnegie Building, 451 E. Mitchell Street.

Northern Michigan Sports Medicine Center, Bayside Family Medicine, and The Outfitter are hosting a running clinic focusing on "Running injuries, treatment, equipment, and technique." on Tuesday, June 23th from 6:30 - 8:00 pm at the The Outfitter in Harbor Springs. Registration is required for the clinic as participants will be scheduled every 10 minutes from 6:30-8:00, for a total of only 10 participants for this clinic. Local author Marla Kay Houghteling will read from her novel, The Journey of Aurora Starr, on Thursday, June 25th
at 6:00 p.m. on the first floor of the Petoskey District Library.  The story is set in the winter of 1898 when Martin Starr leaves his farm to join the hordes of "Klondikers," seeking their fortune in the Alaska Gold Rush.  A year later Aurora Starr sets out to find her husband, traveling to Seattle, Alaska and into British Columbia.  When the couple is finally reunited, their lives have been forever changed.  Portions of the novel are set in a community similar to Petoskey/Harbor Springs area and in an asylum based on the Traverse City State Hospital.  The book will be available for sale and signing.

Amateur Radio Field Day last weekend in June: Science, Skill and Service
. Raven Hill Discovery Center Amateur Radio Club along with Top Of Michigan Amateur Radio Club (TOMARC) will participate in the national Amateur Radio Field Day exercise the last weekend in June. Saturday, June 27th and Sunday, June 28th, the public is invited to come to Raven Hill and learn about amateur (ham) radio.  Field Day encourages amateur radio operators to set up temporary ham radio stations in public locations to demonstrate ham radio's ability to work reliably under any conditions from almost any location and create an independent communications network, important in case of a communications outage. Hospice of Northwest Michigan is hosting a summer celebration of life and memorial service on Sunday June 28
at 4pm that is dedicated to helping individuals and the community find comfort, support and renewal in their grief and loss of a loved one. The memorial service will be held at the Depot Beach Pavilion 307 Chicago Ave. in Charlevoix. "Jazz up the Night" is the theme for Christ Child Society of Northern Michigan 's BASH (Building a Service Heritage), July 26, 5-8 pm at the Bay Harbor Yacht Club, Lange Center. The fundraiser will include a live auction, silent auction, themed Red Wagons, Diamond Bar (donated by Arlington Jewelers), entertainment by the Pine River Jazz band,  and a gourmet dinner with open bar. 6th Annual Antique Dress and Quilt Display will be on exhibit at Castle Farms June 18-24. Visitors touring the Castle for historic tours will be able to view more than 25 wedding gowns, the earliest dating back to 1758, and from 1800 through each consecutive decade through present day. Accompanying the bridal gowns is an equally resplendent exhibit of nearly twenty handmade quilts. The oldest, a whole cloth quilt in vibrant colors of red and cream from Maryland, dates back to 1800-1830. Castle Farms' 6th Annual Dress and Quilt Display can be viewed by visitors taking a historic self-guided or guided tour. Castle Farms is open daily 9am - 5pm. 5052 M-66 North, Charlevoix, Michigan. Little Traverse Conservancy's Summer Environmental Education
Programs Begin Next Week.
This summer, the Little Traverse Conservancy is once again offering several series of environmental education programs aimed at young people from preschool aged to middle school. New programs are being offered in the Burt Lake region and Boyne City area this year. A downloadable flyer can be found on their website at landtrust.org.
