Calling youth grades 6-12. Little Traverse Civic Theatre announces auditions for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs - the Musical on June 16th and 18th at 7:00 p.m. at the Crooked Tree Arts Center. For more information about auditions visit www.ltct.org. In addition a new workshop, "The Play's the Thing: A Workshop in Theater Arts," is cosponsored by Crooked Tree Arts Center. This is the perfect opportunity for budding actors and actresses to try acting skills and techniques, as well as lighting, sound, set design, construction, costume design, hair and make-up will be explored, giving a well-rounded look at what it takes to put on a play. You do not need to be a part of the workshop to audition for the play. It's time for Strawberry Jam, with a Preservation Station on Wednesday June 17th
from 5:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at The Grain Train in Petoskey. Learn how to pack your pantry with locally-sourced, homemade goods! ISLAND (Institute for Sustainable Living, Art & Natural Design) provides the know-how, research-based recipes, jars, lids and the kitchen set up. This is a hands-on workshop. Participants will walk away with the latest safety recommendations in home-canning and also take a share of the jars home. The cost is $40 per person, space is limited so please register in advance.


The North Central Michigan College Library is hosting a Throwback Thursday Park, and is looking for individuals who can identify photos of North Central students, faculty and events for a new digital archive.
On Thursday, June 18th, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., the community, especially former students and staff, are invited to attend a Throwback Thursday party in the Library.  Hot dogs and sodas will be provided.  Photos will be on display for identification - names, year, event and more. This is a free event. Crooked Tree Arts Center Kitchen Painters: A Passion for Painting Exhibit will open in the Atrium Gallery on Thursday, June 18th.
The exhibit opening reception will run from 5:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. on June 18, coinciding with Downtown Petoskey's Gallery Walk. Members of the Kitchen Painters group will be out on the Bidwell Plaza painting en plein air for passersby to watch. Refreshments will be served in the Atrium Gallery and the Art Tree Sales Gallery that evening. Volunteers will be happy to provide stickers to the Gallery Walk participants in the Atrium Gallery. The Northern Michigan Chorale will be performing an exciting Concert in the Park next Friday, June 19th
at Noon.  The ensemble will sing favorite Broadway and popular tunes to help kick off the summer concert series held in Pennsylvania Park in downtown Petoskey.  In case of rain, the concert will be held in the Crooked Tree Arts Center.  Hope to see YOU there!

Petoskey-Bay View Country Club Community Open House and Picnic on Saturday, June 20th
, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.  We are celebrating our 100 years this summer and want to kick it off with a community picnic - free to our guests.  The Epsilon Jass Band will entertain, picnic lunch will be offered for all.  We have members on hand to give tours of the clubhouse and golf course and Jerry Donnelly will be happy to talk about our history.  We have quite a collection of memorabilia too.  Come one come all and celebrate with us. 'The Storyteller's Guide to the Night Sky' program on June 20th to welcome summer season at Headlands International Dark Sky Park

Local author Marla Kay Houghteling will read from her novel, The Journey of Aurora Starr, on Thursday, June 25th
at 6:00 p.m. on the first floor of the Petoskey District Library.  The story is set in the winter of 1898 when Martin Starr leaves his farm to join the hordes of "Klondikers," seeking their fortune in the Alaska Gold Rush.  A year later Aurora Starr sets out to find her husband, traveling to Seattle, Alaska and into British Columbia.  When the couple is finally reunited, their lives have been forever changed.  Portions of the novel are set in a community similar to Petoskey/Harbor Springs area and in an asylum based on the Traverse City State Hospital.  The book will be available for sale and signing.

Keweenaw Excursions, Beards Brewery and the Charlevoix Marathon have all chosen Hospice of Northwest Michigan as a Charity of Choice and are supporting the upcoming "Hops for Hospice" fundraising boat cruise on their behalf!

Amateur Radio Field Day last weekend in June: Science, Skill and Service
. Raven Hill Discovery Center Amateur Radio Club along with Top Of Michigan Amateur Radio Club (TOMARC) will participate in the national Amateur Radio Field Day exercise the last weekend in June. Saturday, June 27th and Sunday, June 28th, the public is invited to come to Raven Hill and learn about amateur (ham) radio.  Field Day encourages amateur radio operators to set up temporary ham radio stations in public locations to demonstrate ham radio's ability to work reliably under any conditions from almost any location and create an independent communications network, important in case of a communications outage. Blissfest, Northern Michigan's award winning folk, roots and world music festival, will take place July 10th-12th, at the Blissfest Festival Farm near Cross Village. 
The 35th Annual Blissfest is a celebration of music, culture, art and community featuring a world of diverse and innovative folk, world and roots music and dance at the 120 acre Festival Farm in scenic northern Michigan. This summer season Crooked Tree Arts Center will be continuing with its summer concert series. Both the Charlotte Ross Lee Concerts in the Park and the Bidwell Plaza Concert Series will be starting this month.
